Ann Coulter just doesn't get it. She is an unrepentant bigot proudly slinging her vile hatred at anyone who will give her a platform and based on her book sales there seem to be plenty of people willing to do that. From a story on CNN:
CNN has reached out to Coulter's representative, and received no response. But the New York Times reported that she responded, in an e-mail, "C'mon, it was a joke. I would never insult gays by suggesting that they are like John Edwards. That would be mean."
Well that certainly puts it in a new light. Notice she doesn't say a word about her use of the word "faggot". Clearly it was intended to disparage gay people since she admits she was referring to gays when she made the comment. She just thinks it's OK to use the word. The article presents Ms. Coulter's attempt to defend herself shortly after she made the remark and she just makes matters worse:
During a question-and-answer session, Coulter referred back to the issue of gays by alluding to the bid for the Republican presidential nomination being made by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney."I do want to point out one thing that has been driving me crazy with the media -- how they keep describing Mitt Romney's position as being pro-gays, and that's going to upset the right wingers," she said. "Well, you know, screw you! I'm not anti-gay. We're against gay marriage. I don't want gays to be discriminated against." She added, "I don't know why all gays aren't Republican. I think we have the pro-gay positions, which is anti-crime and for tax cuts. Gays make a lot of money and they're victims of crime. No, they are! They should be with us."
"Gays make a lot of money and are victim of crimes." Nothing like proving you're not a bigot by making generalizations about a group of people. It is good to know that her position on gay marriage is actually a pro-gay position. I think a lot of people missed that. If she really doesn't understand why all gays aren't Republican she should have a sit down with Congressman Barney Frank. I am sure he would be more than happy to shed a little light into that dark void that occupies the inside of her head. Anyone who thinks that Ann Coulter would ever apologize for being a classless, heartless, hate mongerer is in for a very long wait. Her problem isn't just that she is a bigot. It is that she knows it and is proud of it. Volvodrivingliberal has a post here and at Daily Kos where he provides contact information on the companies who advertise with her. We can't make her apologize but we can cost her some money. Take a few minutes and let her sponsors know that you won't buy products from people who support bigots and the hatred they spew.
