I suppose a number of otherwise "liberal people" will find a number of excuses for this outrage just because "mar-ju-wanna" is involved.
Video shows cop choking marijuana suspect
The incident began with a traffic stop.
Officer Cosby said he smelled burning marijuana, ordered Anders out of the car and told him to spit out something he had in his mouth.
Cosby then put one, then both hands around Anders' neck and squeezed in attempt to keep he from swallowing drugs in a technique called "vascular restraint."
So he choked him JUST for having cannabis nearby.
Video on the flip.
Now... remove breakable items from the vicinity: It's "not choking", you see...it's "vascular restraint".
The Cop choked him FOR HIS OWN GOOD!
Here's the video:
Cosby: "This is for your own safety sir."
Anders: "You're gonna choking me."
Cosby: "I'm gonna choke you so you can't swallow anything else. That way it's gonna prevent you from having some kind of [overdose]."
What a great public servant.
People who think like this should not be allowed to wear a badge and have a gun!
When I say people who buy into marijuana propaganda are dumb to do so, let this guy be the new posterboy.
Because of the bullshit emotionality that accompanies reefer madness this cop, and many folks who will make a feeble attempt to rationalize or apologize for his insane conduct, feels JUSTIFIED in this level of rights abuses:
*in physically assaulting a person during an otherwise routine traffic stop. Calling it some stupid name doesn't make it any better.
*grossly violating his 4th amendment rights. A police officer choking you because he THINKS something is in your mouth is probably NOT going to pass constitutional muster, unless Scalia writes the majority opinion.
*thinking that somehow swallowing "pot" could lead to "an overdose". Pure unsubstantiated, ignorance-based hysteria.
This last point is grossly inexcusable. It's not possible. It's bullshit. It's false information based on propaganda. It borders on a delusion.
But...it's just a pothead so the Officer gets the obligatory slap on the wrist:
Anders was arrested for simple possession of marijuana, resisting arrest and tampering with evidence.
After reviewing the tape, the district attorney dropped charges and handed the tape over to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Cosby was given a written reprimand for the incident for unbecoming conduct during a traffic stop.
He is still on the force.
Anders charges were dropped due to the officers assault.
The remainder of the WARN article details, in a rather journalism-like manner, that this screw up of a public servant potential city liability had been at other police agencies in the past and has a pattern of aggressive conduct and false arrest (arresting somebody for something that was not true), but he doesn't smoke pot, so he's OK to keep his job.

Isn't turning the issue of
Isn't turning the issue of ridiculous drug laws into an excuse for cop-bashing just a wee bit juvenile? Yeah, some cop in Podunk went (slightly) ballistic on a pot-smoker, who wasn't seriously injured, and it showed up on YouTube. Junior high schools are buzzing about it from coast to coast!

I will start by assuming
I will start by assuming this is not snark. If it is and I missed the humor in it, I apologize.
As I said I the start, there's be the Responsible Serious Adult to come along and support the Cop's assault on this person and belittle the majority that will find this rather breathtaking, pardon the pun.
But this is as ignorant as it is insensitive. Good show.
"Isn't seriously injured" is beside the point. Why did his charges get dropped?
Is the judge some dumbass teenager too?
An Activist Liberal Judge?
Why did the charges get tossed??
The judge TOSSED the charges and the victim has a dandy lawsuit to file. The cop assaulted the man, plain and simple and your head is up in your ass somewhere if you support such violent assaults on people for demonstrably nothing.
This cop is a danger to the public and a liability to the city. He's pulled similar stunts in cities where he NO LONGER WORKS.
Correct your attitude..

Although it may be
Although it may be incomprehensible from your zit's-eye view of the political scene, more than 250,000 Americans are wasting long years of their lives in prison for non-violent marijuana busts, and chattering about low-level misbehavior by Barney Fife is just a distraction from the real problem.

OK Pinhead: I often say that
OK Pinhead:
I often say that "Politeness isn't the answer" when making the dubious attempt to educate severely prejudiced people about cannabis reform and you are the poster boy for this fact.
Cannabis prohibition is emotional, not factual. It runs on hype and fear and in YOUR case, the smug ignorance of folks who don't know half what they think they do. Contrary to what a lot of reformers believe, polite renditions of tidy facts go nowhere and stiff confrontation of bullshit attitudes like yours is the more appropriate route to go.
The person with the bullshit attitude -in this case, Jacob Freeze, would be confronted something like this:
What the fuck do you ACTUALLY know about this outside of what the Federal Government wants you to think so you are a good citizen?
I'll tell you what you know. It can be gleaned from what you have given me already.
You don't know jack shit about this issue and you will only make that clear with each dumbass comment you post and it stands out a mile away.
The issue is far larger than you narrow-minded prohibition supporters can grasp.
Stick to taking pretty pictures, boy.
ON EDIT - I see you have a Kos account.
I was right - you are a RSA. Heh!
Since you know so much more than me you need to write you a diary and just smack this down once and for all.
I am sure you can do it since I know nothing.
Feh.
EDIT II: Oh My. I called you a pinhead and I was more correct than I could have known.
BANNED from Daily Kos for Trollery.
HA HA.

Didn't it tip you off that I
Didn't it tip you off that I might not be a "narrow-minded prohibition supporter" when I talked about 250,000 Americans "wasting long years of their lives in prison" because of "ridiculous drug laws?" How do you expect to write anything worthwhile if you can't quite read?
Adolescent cop-bashing is just a distraction from the infinitely more serious consequences of draconian drug laws written by soulless right-wing legislators and supported by spineless Democrats.
250,000 Americans are serving a total of more than a million years in prison for silly marijuana busts, more than fifty million weeks of hard time, and there aren't many of those inmates who wouldn't take a minor slap-down in return for getting out of prison just one week sooner.
In spite of the elevation of your diatribe on BuzzFlash, it's really worse than worthless, because it confirms the right-wing stereotype that the only critics of our miserable drug laws are cop-bashing teenagers.
But for any intelligent high school kids who happen to read this exchange, I can suggest a much better subject for an essay, and that's the thousands of teenagers whose lives have been destroyed by drug busts in states like Nevada, where possession of one seed automatically classifies you as a dealer.
A low-rent marijuana habit didn't prevent Barack Obama from making good grades and getting into Harvard, but if he had ever been busted with just barely enough weight to classify him as a dealer, he could have ended up just like his homeless friend Keith Kakugawa.
