Arlington South Memorial - Charlotte NC

Any one in or near Charlotte North Carolina are welcome to come and observe and reflect on the True Costs of War!

A number of volunteers were very busy yesterday, 9-28-07, setting up the Memorial to the Fallen of both Iraq and Afganistan, with thoughts also of those who are not counted but their deaths are a direct result of having served in both theaters and experiancing the Hell on Earth man creates.

Thoughts and Sad memories are also embedded in the Memorial of the Tens of Thousands of Innocent Iraqi people with Code Pink setting up the 'Peace Ribbon' some of which carry the names of only a few.

The Arlington South Memorial of 4,000 Crosses is be set up in Charlotte on the first International Day of Non-Violence!

The crosses are being displayed at Independence Park (7th and Hawthorne) in Charlotte on the final weekend in September (28-30). We ask that any in or near Charlotte please stop by and visit the Memorial, especially if you can make it for the dedication ceremony at noon on Saturday Sept. 29.

The human cost of the war is enormous and increasing. This memorial is intended to be a place to mourn, reflect, contemplate, grieve, and meditate. 4,000 hand made crosses / Star of David/ Islam Crescents that honor and acknowledge those who have lost their lives and loved ones in Afghanistan and Iraq. Bruce's 'Magic' Has Anti-War

Bruce's 'Magic' Has Anti-War Message

On his new album, "Magic", Springsteen jumps right into the fray again. In a dramatic new REM-ish anthem called "Last to Die," he sings: "Who'll be the last to die for a mistake/The last to die for a mistake/Whose blood will spill, whose heart will break/Who'll be the last to die for a mistake."

The mistake is clearly the Iraq war. "We don't measure the blood we've drawn anymore," he sings. "We just stack the bodies outside the door."

"Magic", which hits stores Tuesday but is already widely available on the Internet, seems like a party album at first. But it has a dark underside: blood and dead bodies wend their way through the songs.

This Was.. The Memorial we

This Was..

The Memorial we put together and was first displayed on 'Memorial Day Weekend' this year in Statesville NC.

It has traveled to a couple of other places since, one was way up North to my old home state:

Arlington North

A tribute to the United States and Canadian soldiers who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan

Lowville, New York — In a unique and unprecedented tribute of honor, “Arlington North” will display close to 4,000 single markers of faith memorializing the service men and women who have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001. The peaceful acknowledgment will be on display day and night from Friday, July 27th until Monday, July 30th on the south slope of the Snow Ridge Ski Resort in Turin, New York. An opening ceremony with military honors and prayers for those lost will begin at 7:00 pm on July 27th.

"This event is intended to illustrate the human cost of war, provide a place of respect to reflect and grieve, encourage rational and peaceful dialogue, and highlight the physical and mental wounds of those injured in combat service," says Derek MacLean Davey, father of Cpl Seamus MacLean Davey, who was killed in action in Haqlaniyah, Iraq, on October 21, 2005. "We honor him and all his fellow service men and women who volunteered for duty to their country."

Previous to this endeavor, a similar monument was erected in Statesville, North Carolina. The community banded together to create 3,200 crosses, representing the fallen as of Memorial Day 2007. At Arlington North, community members and friends will create similar markers of faith to account for the additional number of soldiers lost since the Statesville tribute. It is the hope of the Davey family and the entire surrounding community that this event will increase awareness of the death toll that is currently rising.

The display is sponsored by the Davey family of Lowville NY with assistance from many community friends. Our son and brother Marine Cpl Seamus MacLean Davey was killed in action in Haqlaniyah, Iraq, on October 21, 2005. We honor him and all his fellow service men and women who volunteered for duty to their country.

These folks went way behind just displaying the Memorial, they added more crosses and other religious symbols, in Honor, they also sent it back with the Military symbols, flags, pictures, ribbons etc..... that those who visied placed on the religious symbols!!
