More about badgers... from Hunter S. Thompson's obituary for Richard Nixon:

He had the fighting instincts of a badger trapped by hounds. The badger will roll over on its back and emit a smell of death, which confuses the dogs and lures them in for the traditional ripping and tearing action. But it is usually the badger who does the ripping and tearing. It is a beast that fights best on its back: rolling under the throat of the enemy and seizing it by the head with all four claws.

That was Nixon's style -- and if you forgot, he would kill you as a lesson to the others. Badgers don't fight fair, bubba. That's why God made dachshunds.

Why dachshunds?

The dachshund is a short-legged, elongated dog breed of the hound family. The breed's name is German and literally means "badger dog," from (der) Dachs, badger, and (der) Hund, dog. The standard size was developed to scent, chase, and flush badgers and other burrow-dwelling animals.

Why would a dog want to get in a box with a badger? Those things are mean!

This game sounds more like a "honey trap," and maybe the association with badgers was based on confusion about "honey badgers."

If you assume that a "honey badger" is a cute little confection made of honey, then the whole thing makes sense, but honey badgers get their name from ripping apart bee-hives and more or less anything else they encounter:

The honey badger is among the fiercest hunters in its range, with prey including earthworms, termites, scorpions, porcupines, hares, and even larger prey such as tortoises, crocodiles up to one metre in size, and snakes (including pythons and venomous species). Its ferocious reputation extends to attacks on animals much larger than itself.

Your headline had me worried for a minute. I live in Wisconsin, where we call ourselves (as well at the university athletic teams) Badgers.

We actually make quite nice bedfellows.

I don't know if you noticed but iconoclast posted this a little over a year ago and gas was around 2.00 a gallon. In just over a year it has doubled in some areas and yet there is still no outcry from the public. It is astonishing that people aren't rioting over this. You are right about diesel. I think this may drive a lot of independent truckers out of business. Can you imagine one fill up equal to a house payment?

You may not find much under "Gas" since most people just limit the amount they now put INTO their gas tanks. BUT, if you search under DIESEL crisis, you may get a ittle better results. I run a website that is keeping track of all the "Diesel" related stories (for truck drivers mainly) That includes news about convoy's, meetings, future "shut downs" anything at ALL that I can post to form a more perfect OUTCRY!...as with Gasoline though, there is only a fration of people standing up to speak out about the EXTREME high cost of diesel. My name is Irishman, I see what happens to all the Poor people that have to spend SOOOO much money on Diesel fuel, that they can no longer make a pay check....I'm getting ready to hit the road again, stop in and see me on www.drivers4drivers.com Whether it's gas or fuel...it's ALL too expensive...a car can cost $100 to fill now..and a "Big Truck" can cost $1,200.00 to fill up..
I hope more people decide to stand up and speak out..I really do...

I see an internet news show anchored by fake consultant. There is this miracle out there called "broadband" that makes "broadcast" and cable obsolete...
That's "broadcast" and cable where a few fatcats own the airwaves forever, as opposed to "broadband" where anybody with a camcorder can be a network.

Cable and broadcast are only going to get worse, so instead of whistling in the dark about stuff that ain't going to happen...

Yeah, by the end I figured we were aiming to similar goals but from different angles. I know full well the insidious effect big money has on our political system...and I am almost always backing the grassroots candidates against big money candidates, and so often lose. Right now I have about six friends running for various offices in NY State (City Council, State Senate, NYC Public Advocate, Congress). ALL of them are grassroots progressives opposed in primaries by big money candidates. All six of my friends may well lose. But we are putting up the best fight we can...and who knows, maybe one or two will win.

Sorry to lag in responding. I've been terrible busy. Check my site, committeefordemocracy.org. I'm building its organizational twin at nextrevolution.org. This has pulled my attention away from our interaction.

About that. I am sorry to have insulted you. I take shit seriously, and if I did go over the line of what I would say to someone I'm face to face with, I regret that.

But yeah, you can see that I'm seriously pissed at the top-down political bullshit we are suffering under. The corporate special interests are the easiest targets, yet the subordinate players, composed of the various environmental, labor, gender, race, and class based lobbies are playing the same crooked game, and are, in my opinion, equally complicit. And then there's the parties...

Personally, i am a capatilist in my economic life, yet i believe that our political decision making process that makes the laws and policies that regulate and guide our country must be held widely, through a resonable facsimilie of real bottom up democracy.

I don't expect, or look for corruption and greed, let alone corporate power to dissappear. but i do insist that we have the political power to regulate them, rathar than the opposite.

I think we have similar destinations, but we may see, and have to walk down, different paths to get there.
