I knew somebody was going to call me out on my lousy Spanish. My Italian stinks, too, and my French is le pits. I was gonna use "partido" instead of fiesta, but I thought it meant "a game or sporting event," like "uno partido de futball."

God forbid I should ever go out and actually look something up.

Maybe you should show a few mice under the tables. It's a much more accurate image of the position of most Progressives in the Democratic Party.

By the way, "partido" is a better translation for a political "party" in Spanish than "fiesta," as in your construction of "El tercer fiesta," which sounds more like an after-after-party, as in...

"This is the third party I've crashed tonight, and I'm so drunk that Hillary Clinton is starting to look beautiful!"

“Obviously a fair number of conservatives have taken to the idea that George W Bush has betrayed the true conservatives”.

President Bush betrayed everybody but the wealthy, warmongers, and the industries that supply war materials. Something is really wrong when only a small percentage of the population thrives from Presidential policy.

new voting machienes being tried out over and over, and it seams the get more pomplicated,, but to invend something for congress and the rest to stay out of the peoples votes ??? will never happen,, congress will always have the last word of who is going to get the price, government seams is getting more and more corupted, greed power and money is the vocus of anyone that runs for elections, caring about the country and its people is the last on their list, as we have seen for years but worse then ever before with bush, so,, new voting machienes will not make any diference, congress will get in who the want in , regardless of how many votes are cast towards one person, we are not there to watch if things are going the straight and narrow, we only know the are not, but we cant do nothing about that, congress knows what bush did and still is doing, with millions of people wanting bush to get impeached, bush is still in the white house, that shows our voices are silent and overheard, no one pays any attention to us, that shows the coruption in our government, i am just wondering,,, how did we get what we the people of this country do not deserve, and no new voting machienes in the word will change the way elections of a president or any other official is conducted,

Illegal immigration has a lot to do with bad trade policies that BOTH parties are responsible for.

But what has bankrupted California was energy scamming enabled by the Bush administration (Enron, etc.), and whatever the faults of the Dems in Ca., they've helped produce the healthiest economy in the US.

Exactly. It's the march of fascism under legalisms.

It's obvious that if the GOP were serious about reforming the electoral college in this way, they would introduce the same initiative in EVERY state. But that's not their point at all. Their point is to find yet another way to legalistically subvert an election. It's the equivalent of Blackwell throwing out registrations in Ohio because they were not on a particular paper stock.

The entire time that this administration has been in power, we have had lies, felonious activities, and treason like never before. It appears that few American's will stand up until the crunch arrives in their backyard. It is so reminiscent of the Third Reich.

I grew up in Texas and as such I deeply understand your concerns about the problems of illegal immigration. I do believe that we need to protect our borders. But think about this, we are spending a billion dollars on this war, A BILLION DOLLARS. If you had a choice between healthcare for illegals or the war and thoise were your only choices how would you spend the money?

The following article was on last week on PBSs show “NOW”. It talked about how the Republicans rigged the 2004 Presidential election. They sent out nice welcoming letters to registered voters. They were sent mostly to students who were on summer break, military personal deployed overseas, and Afro-Americans. When the letters came back as “Undelivered” they took those persons off the voter registration or made them “questionable”. These nice letters were specifically stamped “Do Not Forward”. This conduct is called caging. It’s really low life behavior and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it happen again.

For more information and links go to www.pbs.org.

catzoned

Was there a White House plot to illegally suppress votes in 2004? Is there a similar plan for the upcoming elections? This week NOW examines documents and evidence that points to a Republican Party plan designed to keep Democrats from voting, allegedly by targeting people based on their race and ethnicity with key battleground states like Ohio and Florida of particular interest. "It was a partisan, discriminatory attempt to challenge voters of color," Eddie Hailes, a senior attorney for The Advancement Project, a civil rights group, told NOW.

Was the White House involved? David Iglesias, one of the fired U.S. Attorneys, thinks so: "It's reprehensible. It's unethical, it's unlawful. It may very well be criminal." Iglesias told NOW he was repeatedly urged by his superiors at the Justice Department to investigate allegations of false voter registrations. After his investigations came up short, Iglesias said Republican officials got angry and complained to White House aide Karl Rove. Soon after Iglesias lost his job. As a result of allegations by Iglesias and others, Congress is investigating whether the White House acted unlawfully.

While Attorney General Alberto Gonzales refused to answer many questions about the controversy as he testified before the Senate this week, Iglesias told NOW he believes the White House is keeping documents from Congress to protect the Bush Administration. "That's why there has been such a circling of the wagons around Karl Rove and Harriet Miers and Sarah Taylor. I believe there to be incriminating, possibly criminally incriminating evidence contained in those e-mails and other memoranda," he said.

I live in California. The democrats have bankrutped the state. Blame goes to both partys but we cannot continue to support illegal welfare. Our prisons are 30% illegal mexicans, our crime of murder is mostly done by illegals. Our hospital waiting rooms are full of illegals. Our politicans both partys better get their crap together or we are going to fire them all. That includes Arnold, he is now a Democrat pretending to be a Republican.

I sure hope Democrats in California aren't taking this lying down. I hope they understand what happens in their state on this one could have huge effects nationwide, and that the Republican scam (regardless of how the GOP dresses this one up) is defeated and their candidates sent out of office en masse.

One thing about the republicans, there is no rock that they won't crawl under in order to gain or hold power. We will always have to be on our guard, because they don't have rules.

Thanks for posting about this dangerous initiative. I hope the Democrats in the Sacramento statehouse don't let it slip through.

The Republicans are busy fixing the next election, and the Democrats are busy debating each other. I wish we had a better opposition party!
