Freddie, Fannie And Friends

Freddie, Fannie And Friends (cont.)

Fannie, Freddie spent $200M to buy influence

Fannie and Freddie's political contacts exist deep in the two presidential campaigns.

At least 20 McCain fundraisers have lobbied on behalf of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, netting at least $12.3 million in fees over the past nine years.

Political insiders Arthur B. Culvahouse Jr., picked by McCain to vet his vice presidential nominees, and Jim Johnson, picked by Obama to perform the same function, once worked for the mortgage giants.

And for years, Rick Davis served as president of an advocacy group led by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that defended the two companies against increased regulation.

So far this election cycle, Freddie Mac's political action committee and employees have contributed $555,567 to Senate and House candidates, and Fannie Mae's PAC and employees have given more than $1.1 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

from AP today:

WASHINGTON - Senate Democrats will move to add to a $150 billion economic stimulus package rebates for senior citizens living off Social Security and an extension of unemployment benefits, setting up a clash with the White House and House leaders who are pushing a narrower package.

Who knows?

Peaking in stalls, reaching under stalls...unless what I heard was a false description, which I don't think it was, since the guy pleaded guilty , you know damn well what he was up to.

Should it be against the law? Hell no. But that's not rather the point, in a way, isn't it? The very folks pushing for anti-homosexual lawmaking are in many cases hypocrites, which says something both about the integrity of those lawmakers and the legitimacy of those laws.

Not funny? How about the definition of "gay behavior" by the Minnapolis police?

Foot-tapping? Hand-signals? How about rolling your eyes and howling like a coyote? Reciting the latest ad-copy for Fruit Loops? How about shouting "I'm a faggot! Who wants to fuck?"

I don't know exactly why any of it should be illegal, but the Handy-Dandy Little Apple Handbook of Homo Codes and Choreograms...

It has to be funny!

The answer, I think (not

The answer, I think (not that I have done statistical analysis on this), is that we continue to run candidates against the GOP candidates who shade as close to the GOP as they can, to the point where they seem more GOP than Dem (the infamous Blue Dogs, of course, in particular). So of course the elections are tight, if we win at all. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I believe that it is increasingly obvious that populist/progressive campaigns can win in these supposedly "safe" Republican areas, and maybe even win solidly. That's one reason why I intend to keep hammering at the Blue Dogs, though I've been mocked for it on at least one prominent "progressive" site.

Mock away, "progressives". Keep your heads down and maybe you'll never see that the "Blue Dogs" and their ilk are eating your lunch, dinner, house and car - and your children's future.

I believe that segregation

I believe that segregation is one of the greatest afflictions faced by humankind, and I don't think it happens by accident. I think that naturally people have two tendencies - tendencies to stick to their 'kind' and tendency to be curious and interested in the 'other' - and that these tendencies tend to balance. But the way communities are developed, all kinds of formal and informal rules tend to come into play which both consciously and unconsciously seek to create and maintain segregation, which is not balance.
