I want to hear Obama say

I want to hear Obama say "the 'military option', ie. attacking someone, is NOT on the table." And if he wants, I'm sure he can find plenty of quotes from Bush regarding Russia saying exactly that - attacking someone is not an acceptable way to solve problems in the 21st century.

Veterans For Peace END

Veterans For Peace END ARCHIVES OCCUPATION ON HIGH NOTE

"We may be back again soon," Vets add.

Washington -- Five military veterans, all members of Veterans For Peace, are breaking camp from their perch on the National Archives building this morning, taking with them their 22x8-ft. banner demanding “DEFEND OUR CONSTITUTION. ARREST BUSH AND CHENEY: WAR CRIMINALS!” that has overlooked their 24-hour action on a narrow ledge 35 feet above Constitution Ave.

Tarak Kauff, 67, former Army Airborne, who provided ground support throughout, said in a phone interview, "We're always told to 'write your Congressman,' and we have. Only this time we brought a letter they couldn't miss. We've made our point writ large that Bush and Cheney are war criminals and must be arrested and prosecuted. Impeach them if we can, but we're not holding our breath for Congress to act. The kingpins of this criminal administration will be brought to justice, along with many of their lieutenants."

Elliott Adams, VFP president, by phone from his spot on the ledge overlooking the entrance to the Archives Building, said "This turned out excellent. We're very happy with the response we've gotten to arrest Bush and Cheney for war crimes. We considered staying longer this time but we are not prepared for longer than this...although we may be back again, soon."

VFP members participating in the Archives action are: Elliott Adams: 61, NY, VFP President and former Army paratrooper in Viet Nam; Ellen Barfield: 52, MD, former U.S. Army Sgt., full-time peace and justice advocate; Kim Carlyle: 61, NC, mountain homesteader, former Army Spec 5; Diane Wilson: 59, TX, shrimp boat captain, former Army medic; Doug Zachary: 58, TX, VFP staff, former USMC LCpl discharged as a conscientious objector; and Tarak Kauff (ground support) 67, NY, painting contractor, former U.S. Army Airborne.

I agree. Mr. Eason has become a hero to a lot of people like me, who don't recognize many heros on the political scene today, or any other scene. I hope other scientists will appreciate and emulate his principled refusal to "go along to get along," and I think you're right that that he'll do great things...

He already did one, and that's more than most people will ever do.

I agree with epppie. Mr. Eason deserves our admiration for refusing to honor the abject bigot Jesse Helms, and for paying a high price for adhering to his principles. The last paragraph of KAMustons diatribe should be rewritten without its clueless condescension and the silly, insulting reference to bio-weapons.

Enough is Enough!
Truckers

Enough is Enough!

Truckers Calling For Mass Shutdown:

Nationwide Diesel Shut Down: April 30 - May 1, 2008

Nationwide

Diesel Shutdown!

May 1, 2008

This past month thousands of truck drivers all across

the nation shut down their rigs to protest the high cost

of fuel. The message was heard but not loud enough!

Everyone agreed that WE got to do it all together!!!

Port truck drivers from the Atlantic, Gulf, and Pacific

Coast are uniting and encouraging ALL truck drivers,

intermodal, otr, regional, to join us to let our

government leaders know that something has got to be

done. Truck drivers are the new slaves and we are

getting tired of working just to pay the cost of diesel.

Enough is Enough! Some areas want to shut down

for a week, May 1 to May 8. Others are taking it to

Washington D.C. on a Convoy. WE all must do

what WE can, our families are counting on us, and

the American public has its’ hopes in us. Feed our

families or buy diesel. Something is wrong.

Stop all trucks on May 1, 2008.

America will stop for that day.

WE have a problem that needs to be fixed.

Our Soldiers

Bring them home NOW! We

need them at home. The

price of the war is too high,

both in soldiers killed and our

economy.

Drivers Rights

Truck drivers realize that it doesn’t

matter what race you are or where

you’re from. Abuse from the brokers,

dispatchers, and companies hurt

everyone. For one day WE must all

pull together.

Following the earlier actions this month!

For some reason the page link won't hotlink, use this one, also above, and click 'All Truckers'!

How about a Gravel/Paul

How about a Gravel/Paul ticket?

Mike Gravel has made some enemies along the way as he stood up against the “system”. Ron Paul looks as though he doesn’t have a real “plan” just an insider who says what we all feel on the streets.

I must confess, this election, I have failed to listen in to the daily grind of political rhetoric and speeches / debates. But, I did do some small research on each of the “listed” candidates. One publication of a small town newspaper put the “viable” candidates on a side to side comparison… it was obvious to see the “teaming” – pairing of candidates for Pres./V.P; there is no real difference in the battle cry of Obama and Clinton, nor, McCain and Romney. So it seems there really is only one race; who will get top billing and who will get second in command on either side.

But being politically minded – that is, of discussions within our political world; I have come across Mike Gravel several times in other, unrelated research/issues. He is an individual ! He speaks from conviction of his true beliefs and not for some “insider’s club” or caucus of potential funding of special projects that might “make a name” for him.

Wouldn’t it be great if a majority of voters actually went to the list of “write-in” candidates and voted for them instead of either mongrel party? Thousands of splinter votes here and there for these unlikely candidates; would be the smallest total count of a winning presidency in history.

Since the beginning of political parties there has been the underlining British parliament underhandedness – the British are just more stylish at it. Lead not by example but by rhetoric that sounds like Opra on a book review. Limit access to truth and fill in the blanks with what you want them to know.

It makes hard to raise children these days. I mean, the children are not stupid. They see through this. They have access to the same data. As parents we tell them to cooperate and be part of the “norm”, the society at hand. While it is such a conflict to reality, causing violence, depression, suicides, and drop-outs. There is not much I can offer to my children in directing them to use their senses and be an individual; while the future suggests they will have to bend and adhere to things they do not agree with – that are against human nature.

To attend an education center for ten hours a day to be told a story of “acceptable” social studies or altered/omitted history; forced drug awarness and sexual promiscuity courses. To be lead to believe that individual thinking is wrong and punishable. Only to one day graduate with little knowledge of real-world processes and skills. Then to pursue the job market where you, again, are forced to leave the human side; to join a crew for corporate gains-at-any-costs at ten + hours a day foregoing the pursuit of happiness. Struggling for twenty years to retire and find that your health is gone and there is not enough to support your daily needs.

With capitalism as our foundation, along with indebtedness; it seems the two have buried the individual American under heaps of legislation and partner bargaining too heavy for us to carry.

I saw a movie the other night that, while much of its content would offend many, it had a great point. “Why carry the burden of hatred and loose what little time we have”. The presidential election and much of the daily concerns of American’s have caused us to carry the burden of disdain and contempt that we can’t seem to change anyway – so why do we continue to “care”; to keep the pace of the untruths and falsehoods among us? Another great point of this movie was: “asking the right questions, like, has what you’ve done made a difference”? I am guilty of these. I get so upset as I read the newspaper or view TV news; but, why do I let it get to me and carry it forward? Guess, it is because I do care and it does affect me and my family.

But with all my rhetoric, have I made a difference?

It occurs to me that we the people are pretty much all chanting the same song, with few variations; yet, it appears not to be changing a thing. Just our loss of time to anger! Turning to hate and loosing what is most dear to us – our individual happiness and pursuit of continued freedom to choose.

I would vote a Gravel/Paul ticket !! Heck, I may just write them in.

Down right FedUp

Who says you're crazy? I

Who says you're crazy? I would have preferred a Progressive on the ticket, however, as we all know, Edwards, Paul and Kucinich were marginalized by the MSM and never received the consideration or wide-spread knowledge of their messages except what the MSM allowed which equates to us being faced with limited choices once the final decision has to be made. It's been said through different commentaries that Ron Paul understands our economic crisis and would be best suited to get us back on our feet - but it seems to be a hope rather than any possibility of a reality. We must choose someone that can beat the GOP, and fracturing the vote, based on Paul's numbers - could help to put McBush into office.

What we as Democrats fail to realize is that we're going into the same self-destructive behavior the Democrats never seem to tire of, "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory." McCain is now polling higher than both Democrats (So they say... I find that one hard to believe...) and even if someone has to eat crow - the unity and future of the nation should be our ultimate concern.

Ralph Nader? Based on his prior performance in Presidential elections and the negative impression that many Dems have of him for allowing the GOP to use his run at the Presidency to take votes away from the Dems is still simmering among many who looked deep into the actual numbers. Nader is an extremely intelligent individual, and when it was the GOP that actually helped him to get in several different state tickets, Nader should have understood that he was being used much as we're witnessing the GOP voting for Clinton in the primaries because they believe she would be easier to beat than Obama... "Rovian" politics are far from dead...

Mr. Gatto, no matter what form it takes, I'll be happy to see unity become the dominating message of this election, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be going that way; I believe McCain will choose Romney as his running mate and then we will be in for another close election - which then allows the GOP to play "adulterated voting results" through electronic voting machines and will be better positioned to win another elections through "hook or crook"; they don't care how they get in, just so they win - which would be the final nail in our proverbial coffin.

Oh well, Presidential politics isn't my field of expertise and I seem to have made most of the wrong decisions myself - and maybe for once the will of the people will be heard, although based on previous experience and observations, we had better get our act together soon or we will be looking into the guarantee that democracy will be effectively ended in America if the GOP manage to pull off another win - and that's just too depressing to think about!

William Cormier
