to be fair, hara indicated

to be fair, hara indicated that he supported issuing the marriage license, but felt constrained by exisitng law...which seems to be a legally correct position.

the "washington defense of marriage act" was challenged recently as well, and the state supreme court ruled that the law could not be overturned.

that was not the outcome some of the justices wanted (as gerry alexander noted in his opinion), but the law was clear.

as far as lora lake goes...the port was stuck here as well. the faa wanted the property razed, as it is in the "safety zone" of a new third runway at sea-tac airport.

the port and the king county housing authority had arranged to keep the place open for low-incomew residents, a property transfer was imminent...and at that point the hazard was discovered.

the port wanted that land transferred...but now they are stuck with it; and the outcome may be bad for all parties involved. hara seems to be an innocent party in this--and for the first time i can recall in a long time, so is the port.

Anyone in a class with Diane

Anyone in a class with Diane Feinstein has just got to be aok. And hates gays too! What's not to like?
His campaign fundraiser manages city funds - Llioyd is quite the dealmaker I see. Cozies up well to the good ole boy network - that's good. Means he's a realist. And did I get that right? Did he really help quash public concern about the destruction of public housing by getting the housing declared a toxic site? Gee, maybe that's giving him a LITTLE too much credit, but what a stroke of genius! Send him to New Orleans where he could do some REAL good!

Lordy, I see a future for this man in American politics. A big future! Future presidential candidate?

It takes amazing courage to be a whistleblower - to lose everything, maybe even your freedom or your life - and to have no one listen anyway, most of the time.

I have just now opened my eyes to what you just said. I have never thought about that before, and I agree with you. How can we have a better future if we cant get the people we need to help us get there, up in a position that has power and will be safe for them.

Yeah, my point exactly.

Forcing people into a position where they have to support a particular war policy in order to "support the troops" isn't exactly my idea of freedom.

It's also a bad way to run things, in general, because it puts waaay too much trust in decisions by the political leadership.

You wouldn't want a record of the transaction on paper, that you can verify, and that you can use for proof later if there is a discrepancy or question?

One is told that only partisans complain about the Bush administration. Well, after the Fisa vote this weekend, it certainly isn't about partisanship anymore!!
