backing down and funding the war is that it isn't safe to confront the President of the Republican party. The political and citizen activists know that they will be left hanging on their own without mainstream Democratic Party leadership backing, folks that would like to jump in with the progressives and the Dems are left without encouragement and protection (they won't jump until it's safe), and the media will pander to who is most intimidating (Republican noise machine).

Leadership is effective because you help people follow in the direction they want to go by making it safe for them to go there. The Democratic Party leadership will eventually have to fight through this Republican PR bullshit if they want to succeed. There will be more chances in thefuture, but this was a real self imposed setback.

What a statement. Have they really completely lost sight of what it means to live in and participate in a democracy? Of course this should come as no surprise. This is what we heard from the Congressmen spearheading the impeachment of then President Clinton.

Reid and Pelosi by e-mail twice. Once each before the vote, and now that the vote is done, once more to both of them. Actually, what happened seems to me worthy of some snail mail. I find their capitulation to the President's will to be nothing short of spectacular. I don't see why they didn't go down to CVS and buy a bow to wrap up the present.

I was listening to a Neocon on NPR last night night. His opinion is that the will of the American people is of no consequence in this matter. I beg to differ.
