When I think of Obama, I think of the soft bigotry of low expectation. It's not just because he made the phrase famous (and - possibly - even came up with it). It's because I wonder, why does the first black always have to be some mediocrity at best. That used to be different. First black to star on Broadway - one of the great geniuses of commedy - Bert Williams. First black player in the Baseball Major Leagues - Jackie Robinson. First black actor to be play staring roles in Hollywood; Paul Robeson.

But now, the first Black supreme court justice (not quite sure if he was the actual first); Clarence Thomas. First black Secretary of State: Colin Powell. First black major party candidate for President: Obama. I just thing Obama is a mediocrity. Many, many projections based on people's hopes are dancing around his head, making him seem 'bigger' than he is, it seems to me.

One thing about the so-called Christian right. They truly believe they are answering the call of God. Either that or they are psychotic. But either way, when you are marching to do God's work, little things like truth and honesty lose their value. You can't do God's work if you can't get elected.
