The Day the Music Died

"...and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage.
No angel born in hell
Could break that satans spell.
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite,
I saw satan laughing with delight
The day the music died"

Honestly, I'm not a pessimist. I continue to believe that this country can change its direction. But I think we have to be honest with ourselves, to be optimistic, and in my opinion, for me anyway, being honest means recognizing that America died on 911. America will live forever in the hearts of those who loved America (not the frenzied flag wavers, but the people who really loved America). But for America (I'm speaking of the Democratic Republic) to be manifest again, it will have to be reborn (as I see it).

I actually made this drawing last year for 911. I've been thinking over the past few days about whether to make a new one for this year's anniversary, or to re-use the old one, or to give it a pass this year. When it comes to memorializing 911, it seems to me especially important to do what feels right. To listen to one's intuition.

And, listening, I suddenly heard Don Mclain! And I had this feeling that I've been waiting for this moment to reference that song.
Gosh, artists do get the mystic sillies sometimes, don't they? But there you are.
