Ahhh tax day. The wonderful day where we all get to hear republicans justify tax breaks to the top 1% of the income bracket.

    I think anyone who has ever had a political conversation about the essential nature of the Democrat and Republican parties has heard the idea of the “Fiscally Responsible Republican” and the “Tax-and-Spend Democrat.” These titles that are used on a daily basis by people like Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Rielly seemed to have seeped into the American public’s thinking so thoroughly that most democrats and republicans accept their roles and consider it a moot point to be ignored.
    I’d like to do some research into these little beat-it-into-your-head terms. To start our investigation, I suppose we should lay some ground rules down. What exactly constitutes fiscal responsibility? I think some things that everyone agrees on, for personal and governmental responsibility, are as follows:

A partisan platform based on greed
by giving more to those who don't need
To rescue the economy is not a mistake
but throwing life jackets to those not in the lake?

According to an article recently published on Yahoo News from AP, the final details have been ironed-out and the legislation appears to be a sure thing. As usual, Washington made sure that those most harshly affected by the recent surge in food and fuel costs who are living on fixed-incomes via Social Security would be ineligible for any of the scheduled "rebates" that comprise the economic stimulus package. The language, even in the report from AP, is contradictory and requires more than a casual read as it jumps from one thought to another:

For many years, Americans assumed that the great majority of money available to be taxed, was earned income. After all, everybody works, everybody generates income, and it seems fair to tax this money as it comes in. It was the bulk of money earned in the United States. After all, the USA was the place to be, to earn a good income. Since the Reagan administration, we have created a different kind of America.

I've been better about browsing the KC Star blog latley. Because its a fairly entertaining place to watch the way people are responding to news etc...

Republicans are the flag-wavers of low-cost citizenship, but if you look back at 30 years of neglected infrastructure, you may notice that most of the Democrats who managed to get elected played more or less the same game. The last Democratic national candidate who threatened to raise taxes on everybody was Walter Modale, and he only won one state in the general election. The people don't want to pay for the blessings of citizenship, and politicians of both parties are just riding the wave of irresponsibility.

There is a cancer growing on our nation...a cancer that threatens our very existence as a civil society. It is not poverty, illegal immigration, and inadequate healthcare, failing public education or even terrorism. All these can be conquered if we can work together and pool our resources, but that is precisely where our cancer grows.
