Actually I first posted this Diary on MyDD Sunday July 15th, and sure enough come Monday July 16th Majority Leader Harry Reid announced he would keep the Senate in session for 24 hours starting the next night. I had been planning to post this Diary here at Diatribune that Monday but changed my mind given the breaking events. Now I've changed my mind again.

Don’t look now, but the filibuster is back in style – it just isn’t “called” the filibuster. But with all of the whining during 2005 and 2006 about “upperdown votes” and “nuclear options” and “obstructionist Democrats” a strange but not unexpected thing has happened during this still-young Congressional Session.
