Long Past Time: Where Do The DoD Budget Monies Go?

Every year our Department of Defense budget grows to ever Huge Proportions and we're givin the simpleminded reason that we're getting our National Security Protection, and we simply except, no questions asked, don't even get upset when corruption within is brought out, or outrageous costs for items we could purchase offshelf cheaper in a handware store.

Many have seen this YouTube Video of the barracks conditions for returning soldiers at Fort Bragg, or at least heard about it, which has brought about this,

Gut the Military

For fiscal year 2007 the United States is spending $439.3 billion dollars (pdf) on the military, specifically the department of defense. Doesn't sound like much, does it? But this figure's a little misleading. First we need to factor in what is being spent in Iraq, which for some reason doesn't get included in the "military spending" figures. It's supposed to be around $110 billion, but some say it will be higher. Still we're not there. The CIA and various other "defense" operations are unconstitutionally protected from disclosing budgetary figures. They are all funded from what's called the "black budget," and it's estimated at around $1.1 trillion a year, a complicated number because it's not merely subtracting known expenditures from total revenues. (Read the report for more details on this.) So all told we spend around $1.6 trillion dollars a year on our military apparatus. It's long been known that we spend more on the military than all other nations combined, but that's without the black budget. With that factored in, we hold a 3:1 advantage.

Service to Country, that really doesn't care!

This is your Government, not as the wanna-be little dictator stated today, in response to the 'No Confidence Vote', "my government".

Pentagon study says military "unsustainable in the long term."

Cross Posted at Daily Kos

I saw an article in the Boston Globe about a week ago whose subject didn’t seem to get a lot of publicity. A study ordered by the pentagon has found that rising oil prices and a shrinking supply of oil have made the United States military "unsustainable in the long term."

DOD Official lies to the Senate VA Committee

On March 27, 2007 a MS. ELLEN EMBREY
DEPUTY ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF DEFENSE FOR HEALTH AFFAIRS/ FORCE HEALTH PROTECTION & READINESS gave written testimony to Senate Veterans Affairs Committee about the veterans used in the human experiments at Edgewood Arsenal from 1955 thru 1975. I expect DOD officials to give "honest" facts to Senators, but this statement is false on many points of her testimony. I don't know who was responsible for getting her the information she gave, but whomever it was, the facts are wrong. I know this because I am one of the 7120 enlisted men used in this program.
