Full Committee
By Direction of the Chairman
The first panel Friday morning will include Congressman Dennis Kucinich making a case for impeachment based on the articles of impeachment he has drafted against Cheney and Bush.
American News Project: Kucinich's Fight to Impeach Bush - Part I : Rep. Dennis Kucinich continued his seemingly quixotic crusade to impeach President Bush last week. But with Speaker Pelosi suggesting the House Judiciary Committee may hear his argument, Kucinich might get his day very soon.
I admit I've been skeptical of the calls to impeach George Bush and Dick Cheney, fearful that acting this late in their terms will create a circus that overshadows the question of who will succeed them in January.
I thought I had seen it all, and then I received an email from Robert Wexler with a copy of the Sun Sentinel's Editorial titled "Impeachment not worth another minute of anybody's time." When I first read the Editorial, I though it was a joke; since the Sun-Sentinel is in Southern Florida, I though maybe Disney World was involved and Goofy was the Editor, or at worst, they had allowed the White House to write their Editorial. It was the worst take on our current situation that has ever graced (or tarnished) an American newspaper, and those of us who understand the crimes of the Bush administration were likely wondering if the Sun-Sentinel's Editorial Board were using some of that cocaine that Florida is so famous for "importing" through it's many ports and hidden beaches.
To add insult to injury, the Sun-Sentinel ran a poll on whether Bush should be impeached, obviously sure their readership approved of their hipocracy, but hands down, the readership themselves rejected their poorly crafted Editorial and gave them a smack-down they sorely deserved, and I applaud the inhabitants of Southern Florida for posting their opinions and rejecting an editorial that was ridiculous and unfortunately, exposed the Editorial Board of the Sun-Sentinel of rank partisanship and a failure to understand the mood of the American people - even in a Red state like Florida. But first, these are excerpts from an editorial that appears as if it was written by Carl Rove or Dick Cheney, although if either of those had written it, I'm guessing that it might have made some sense, whereas as it was written, we have to ask ourselves if the Sun-Sentinel's Editorial Board was high or drunk when they attempted to "spin" the obvious crimes of the Bush administration:
Impeachment not worth another minute of anybody's time
Veterans For Peace presented 22,000 signatures calling for Bush impeachment to Rep. Conyers (D-MI)
Veterans For Peace (VFP) had planned a sit-in at Rep. Conyers office before he agreed to a meeting. VFP presented 22,000 signatures to Rep. Conyers, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee. Coincidentally, Congress referred the 35 articles of impeachment that Rep. Kucinich introduced on Monday to the House Judiciary Committee. Rep. Conyers has not stated any plans to move forward with impeachment.
Let’s Impeach the President for Lying
And misleading our country into war
Abusing all the power that we gave him
And shipping all our money out the door
Neil Young
On Monday of this week Rep. Dennis Kucinich introduced 35 articles of impeachment. On Wednesday it finally was acknowledged by CNN. In fact it was, for a time, the third most popular story right after Incest girl reunited with family and 'Idol' runner-up lands record deal.
Section 4. The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. - United States Constitution
The time is always right to do what is right. - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Americans like to complain. Grassroots progressives, myself included, in particular like to complain. Sometimes I have seen the complaints become almost an obsession, to the detriment of actually getting things done. Nader is a perfect example of this. I have seen progressive apathy or even antipathy sink some of the most progressive and honest candidates you could ever imagine. This is the danger of being on the forefront of progress. You can get ahead of yourself, ahead of everything and wind up all alone.
My generation thought Vietnam was an aberration, but it wasn’t, it was the game plan. Lie your way into a nasty little war and let other people’s children do the killing and dying while the fat cats at the top of the capitalist pile rake in the dough. It’s all for the benefit of those so bloated with greed that they just don’t care that their profits come soaked in the blood of innocents and patriots.
It's a shame that Americans no longer have a free press. If we did, the "average American" would understand that our Presidential elections are worthless, and the Mainstream News Media is choosing our next President, not the people. (When the average American does not possess the facts and understand the true situation that are country is in, their votes are skewed by lack of knowledge and are influenced by propaganda - not facts.) The issues being "debated" by Presidential candidates do not reach into the core of the corruption that affect the survivability of The United States as a free and democratic republic. Timothy Gatto covered some of the many issues that the Presidential candidates refuse to debate and/or even comment upon - even though the issues which are being avoided affect the ability of the Untied States to remain a free and democratic republic. While Mr. Gatto's article was insightful - and the points he presents are spot-on, however are not specific enough to shock the conscience of those who still don't understand the candidates are carefully side-stepping issues that are at the core of our problems, some which could result in the death of freedom in America!
"Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York, who leads the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, insists that the more Republicans block Democrats in Congress, the more seats Democrats will win next year."
It is not a complaint about that work or that author: indeed, it's how well and clear the author lays out the reality of what's happening right now that prompted me to write this.
It's that I have really tried to muster respect for the current leaders. I really have. I was as thrilled as anybody when they took back some power. But one year later I find them stalling and footdragging and doing a fantastic job of feigning weakness specifically to drag out the resolution to the Occupation of Iraq - perhaps ALL of our expressed goals - until much closer to the 2008 Election.
They are purposefully prolonging the carnage to maximize their election potentials. It's cold, immoral political calculation.
Watching the recent developments and statements made by President Bush, it makes one question when impeaching Bush and Cheney become a matter of survival for our nation as opposed to an impeachment process where there wasn't the urgency that presents itself in these newest revelations. We have known for some time that Cheney was in a battle with the intelligence community, and the White House actually refused to accept the NIE for almost a year. Now it seems that the President let his Freudian slip show when he contradicted himself on the time-line in regard when he received knowledge that Iran had suspended their nuclear arms program in 2003:
Scathing analysis of Bush having been caught lying about Iran's nuclear program
Preface:After writing for over three years, I consider this to be the most important Op-Ed I have ever written; forget who I am and please concentrate on the facts and the evidence contained herein - and then form your own opinion. I am only the messenger, but the facts speak for themselves, and our nation faces a grave crisis that the majority of the population doesn't even know exists.
Countless millions of Americans are asking themselves, their Congress, and even their local newspapers why Congress seems to be in collusion with The Bush administration, even though they have violated our Constitution, The Bill of Rights, our Rule of Law, stand in utter contempt of Congress, violate international laws and treaties with impunity – yet a Congress that is empowered and has the duty to impeach these traitors and tyrants still abdicate their sworn duty to uphold the very constitutional values they were voted into office to protect – yet they stand mute and appear to be complicit with the eventual downfall of our democratic republic; Why? Millions are asking these questions, voicing their outrage, and still nothing of substance is being accomplished to halt our nation from falling into tyranny and utter chaos – and most of us stand in disbelief while Bush and Cheney shred everything that once made the United States the great nation it used to be, and now we watch as our economy is literally falling apart! This morning, I read an article on the Huffington Post and was surprised to note that Arianna Huffington has more or less adopted the "party line" on impeachment - and it saddens me that someone as bright and articulate, and who has the traffic to influence hundreds of thousands of people, would adopt a policy that endangers our democratic way of life. This is what Arianna stated:
