NAFTA Superhighway - Fact or Fiction

As most people who have heard of or are concerned about this super highway that is being proposed to cut through the US between Canada and Mexico, I have been reading many websites that swing both ways. However, a little further research will tend to support that something is afoot. What better way to progress with this than to work at both ends and the middle under very little scrutiny?

People in Texas are telling tales of eminent domain being used to take their property. There is some rumbling about a port in Missouri already being approved. And now this....

Obama's Big Lie About NAFTA

Barack Obama's lead economic advisor says that "Obama's tough talk on the North American Free Trade Agreement is just campaign rhetoric not to be taken seriously."

As reported in the New York Times today, Austan Goolsbee, who has been Barack Obama's economic advisor since Obama's Senate campaign in Illinois, told Canadian consular officials in Chicago that "much of the rhetoric that may be perceived to be protectionist is more reflective of political maneuvering than policy."

Email Disscussion between Ron and Al

During the Mid 1990s I was a student at Cal (that's a story in itself)and I met Ron, who was a pumped-up radical grad student researching History-Ethnic Studies.

"Bi-Partisan" Trade Deal: Peru--Keep Private Social Security or Be Sued

Public Citizen's Trade Watch (PDF) has examined the text, released on June 25, of the Peru Free Trade Agreement as revised to bring it into conformance with the agreement that some Democrats in Congress reached with the administration.  Their initial findings are extremely unsettling.  The Peruvian government in the 1980s confronted political violence, hyperinflation, and a dramatic decline in the ability of the state to achieve any goals.
