Now that the presidential debates have been finalized, it might be worthwhile to remind the moderators (Lehrer, Brokaw, Schieffer) that they need to do a little bit more than toss up conservative softballs like Rick Warren. (Indeed, thinking back on the Faith Forum, Warren looked a whole lot more like an overweight softball pitcher, beer in hand, gently leaning forward to underhand those babies McCain's way, than he did like a serious interviewer.)
I thought it might be useful to look back at Tim Russert's series of one-on-one interviews conducted with the candidates in the pre-primary season.

The increasing erosion of our constitutions, civil rights and democracies as they are being gradually subjugated by Authoritarian Security Surveillance States. The bloating no-fly lists and terrorist watch-lists. The continuing inhumane and barbaric renditions, "enhanced interrogations" and indefinite detentions - of children, teenagers and adults alike. The continuing standing of Military Commissions, which are nothing more than politically-driven, rigged, kangaroo courts. The seemingly unending wars of choice and occupation in Afghanistan and Iraq - both based on lies to justify a vengeance operation for 9/11 and the securing of foreign oil resources. The ever mounting toll of civilian deaths, displaced refugees and soldier casualties.
This is the overall state of things today with regards to our so-called "Western civilization" - especially with regards to the U.S.A., the U.K. and Canada.

Unfortunately, due to the complicity of the Mainstream News Media, America is at a crossroads – one that most citizens aren’t even aware of; our MSM is run by corporate interests, and even though some reporters would give anything to tell us the truth, they are stifled from reporting the real news by their corporate masters. We have one or two reporters that deserve the Medal of Freedom for their honesty and tenacity, like Keith Olbermann for instance – but his audience is too small to make a real difference, and the news I’m speaking of should dominate the media, in print , on the radio and on all of the nightly news reports, but instead, what we hear are bits and pieces of so-called news that fail to sound the alarm that America is dying, not a slow death, but our economy is close to a complete collapse, and if Bush and Cheney have their way, World War III could begin at any moment. Yes, it’s that serious, yet the MSM refuses to tell Americans the truth, traitors and cowards for refusing to honor their own beliefs in journalism and protecting the freedom and democracy that a “free press” traditionally provided to its subscribers. The framers of our constitution understood that a free press was essential to the survival of our democracy, and even on our own government’s website, these words are immortal and as true today as when our constitution was first written:

What the media isn’t saying about Carlin
I think George Carlin would be amused that even following his death the mainstream media can’t bring itself to cover the truth about what he had to say. In the majority of the coverage about Carlin I’ve seen, the talking heads simply speak about his "seven words you can’t say on television" or his desire to "push the limits." They don’t want to discuss the dirty details of the truth and social commentary Carlin brilliantly vocalized. That’s what made Carlin a legend, not merely his desire to say "Fuck" on the radio.

Jabberwocky
By David Glenn Cox
"I don't know what you mean by 'glory,'" Alice said.
Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously. "Of course you don't -- till I tell you. I meant "there's a nice knock-down argument for you!'"
"But `glory' doesn't mean `a nice knock-down argument,'" Alice objected.
"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in a rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean -- neither more nor less."

As a media gamesman, Barack Obama is obviously good enough for the imbecile media that he plays, and he gets to play it both ways on almost every issue.
During an interview in South Dakota, Hillary Clinton mentioned than Bobby Kennedy was still campaigning when he was assassinated in June 1968, and as soon as the first fragmentary quote hit the internet, Obama's spokesman was pushing the campaign's "shocked" and inflammatory reaction:
Senator Clinton's statement before the Argus Leader editorial board was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign," said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

Senators Bryon Dorgan (D-North Dakota) and Olympia Snowe (R-Maine)
Last December the Federal Communications Commission pushed through new rules that gutted the local "cross-ownership" prohibition. This would mean more big conglomerates gobbling up our local papers and TV stations.
Last Thursday night, after receiving thousands of phone calls and more than 250,000 letters, the Senate cast a near-unanimous vote to reverse the FCC’s decision to let media companies own both a major TV or radio station and a major daily newspaper in the same city.

In the beginning, there was darkness.
But then unto the world can Edward R. Murrow, who begat Walter Cronkite…and then there came to pass Huntley and Brinkley.
And it was good, and we were happy.
But then before Pharaoh came Ted Turner, who cried: “Let my people go!”…and thus was CNN brought forth upon the Earth.
For some it was a miracle…but for others the endless repetition of the same stories over and over represents a new 40 years of wandering in the desert.
Can the cycle be broken?
Can an oasis in this desert be found?
Can our thirst for more useful insight be sated?
Those are the questions we pose today…and before we’re done, I’ll offer one potential answer.

I know a lot of white people and would be very hard pressed to define what a "typical" white person is like. What if Hillary had said something like, "Isn't that so typical of black people to make a statement like that" do you think all hell would have broken loose? Of course it would have. Is the media giving Obama a free pass when it comes to making racially insensitive statements?

For the past seven (7) years, the Mainstream News Media has favored the Bush administration and has refused to publish facts and report upon issues that are critical to the survival of Democracy in America. Their bias and downright refusal to honestly report the facts rather than spin and propaganda has been well documented - yet because it's election time, in spite of a track record that indicates the MSM is as much to blame for our downward spiral into fascism as the President himself - Democrats on both sides of the isle are buying into the havoc the MSM is creating within the Democratic party itself, which is evidenced by John McCain's rise in the polls which indicates he is polling ahead of Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama. It's obvious I don't understand the politics of Presidential elections as I watch the GOP pull ahead on matters the public has already condemned LINK, however, as long as we give credence to a MSM that has actively hid the truth from the American people for seven long years and are hell bent on distracting the public from the real issues this nation faces while they create havoc within the Democratic Party - I see the ultimate consequence of our infighting resulting in another loss to the warmongers that are intent on destroying America. Have we forgotten the damage the MSM has wrought upon America? The Enablers Of Fascism, The Mainstream News Media
Firedoglake published an Op-Ed that reveals the MSM's influence on the Presidential campaign as it pertains to the Obama/Clinton debacle - and when we realize that much of the indignation and hyperbole of this controversy has been created and fanned by the MSM, we should also understand that it's not by accident, but meant to influence the election and help to place another GOP candidate in the White House!

The story of Sibel Edmonds is a remarkable example of how the executive branch has succeeded (so far) in stifling voices it doesn't want heard, and a potentially damning indictment of the media outlets that seem to be cooperating. If you haven't heard of her don't feel too badly - she hasn't gotten the kind of attention reserved for, say, Michael Bloomberg's latest inscrutable indication on whether or not he'll run for President. Her story was initially publicized by 60 Minutes in August 2004 and a year later in Vanity Fair. Edmonds was a translator at the FBI's language division, and the 60 Minutes piece reported on potentially large levels of incompetence, corruption and security breaches there. The Vanity Fair piece elaborates on it considerably, even expanding the corruption angle to the highest levels of Congress.

CNN and the Associated Press have consistently published the drama unfolding in Georgia through several articles and news casts, however, the impact of the photos that could have accompanied their article(s) would have allowed the reader/viewer to truly appreciate the extent and actual impact of the drought, not necessarily on power plants downriver, nor muscles that could be endangered in Florida, or even old foundations and debris that are popping-up - but how this event is impacting the residents that actually live close to Lake Lanier. The CNN article is informative and also has an interactive page attached, so I'm choosing their most recent publication to demonstrate that indeed, a picture is worth a thousands words - and the drought in Georgia is actually worse than CNN's photos indicate:

I've been and delving into the fascism that has taken over the Mainstream News Media, and now it appears to be manipulating the polls as well. This is opinion, but when it sinks in that George W. Bush was named the most admired man in America in 2007 by the Gallup Poll, we have to question the veracity of the poll, or on the other hand, wonder how so many millions of Americans could have fallen under the spell of propaganda... Either reasoning for the above, no matter what the answer, indicates that America is falling under the spell of fascism or the polls are wrong - and I believe it's the poll(s).

Very few doubt that Bush and Cheney have wrecked havoc on America and caused hundreds of thousands of deaths throughout the world, but in retrospect, their actions and behavior have been condoned and suppressed by America's fascist Mainstream News Media - and without their support, The Commander in Thief and Darth Cheney would have been impeached, removed from office, and prosecuted for their crimes years ago if we still had real news and true investigative reporting in the United States.
The MSM, now owned and controlled by corporate America, have betrayed the people, and without their betrayal, the criminal actions of a Presidency that is out of control would have been halted long before they were able to bankrupt our country and compromise the very essence of liberty and freedom! Those who control Fox News, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and the huge amount of radio and television stations throughout our country - which are being bought-out by fascist forces that support corporatism and tyranny, are still gaining in strength - and as usual, Fox News, The Republican Learning Channel, constantly leads the charge to change a democratic republic into a fascist and authoritarian state. Our anti-trust laws have been ignored and changed to allow the enemies of freedom to flourish, while individual rights are now severely curtailed and are disappearing almost as fast as the wealth and integrity that once made America the world's most respected superpower.
