single-payer

Cancer Screenings, Family History, and the Murder-By-Spreadsheet Industy

Thirty-six year old, Christina Applegate has breast cancer and will undergo treatment.  She was apparently diagnosed with breast cancer during a regular MRI.  She also has family history of cancer; her own mother suffered from breast cancer and cervical cancer.

I felt so sorry for Christina after I read that news. I wondered if she had health insurance or if the insurance companies refused to cover her for cancer.

After all, it was only a little more than a year ago that my daughter got dropped from our family insurance and other insurance companies created a 'trumped up' illness in an effort to refuse her coverage!

The odd thing was that the refusal really blindsided us.

"I've seen people die because of co-payments and deductibles"

"I've seen people die because of co-payments and deductibles"

This is not idle chatter. This is real. This is a stunning and profound indictment of the U.S. healthcare system. These are the words of Dr. Steffie Woolhandler, a doctor who treats patients every day.

Some of us less diplomatic than Dr. Woolhandler, call what she's describing, pay or die.

In June, Dr. Woolhandler, a Harvard Medical School physician and one of the great heroes of the single-payer movement in the United States, was invited to appear before The President's Council on Bioethics.

Has MoveOn Lost its Mind?

The insurance industry is celebrating today.

How could so many good people be so wrong?

Has MoveOn lost its mind?

This is Huge and Cannot be Ignored

A new ally has just joined the battle for healthcare reform.

The American Cancer Society announced today that it will devote its entire advertising budget to educating the American people about the collapse of our healthcare system.

Census: Uninsured Skyrocket (Hits Family of Justice O'Conner)

The numbers boggle the mind.

Forty-seven million Americans went without health insurance in 2006, an increase of 2.2 million people from the year before, according to a report issued by the U.S. Census Bureau Tuesday (Aug. 28). It marks the sixth consecutive year the ranks of the uninsured have grown.

Tear Down This System, Mr. Edwards, Mr. Omama, Mrs. Clinton, et al.

Yesterday on CNN, many of us saw Michael Moore ask the feckless "news" personality, Wolf Blitzer why he wasn't apologizing to the the American people for being a White House shill in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq.

There was no answer. There won't be an answer or an apology. You can take it to the bank CNN will just bury the whole thing under the rug.

If There is No Waiting List, Why Do Women Wait for One Year To get a Mammogram in NYC

Since Michael Moore and SiCKO are going to be smeared and swiftboated, the time has arrived to kick back hard. The way we do this is to dispel absurd claims which have started to come fast and furious.

Edwards gets Tough, "They've Got All the Power".

John Edwards is finding his voice. He's playing hardball.  He's taking the fight to the enemy.

Guess what he's referring to? The for-profit insurance industry, of course.
