Iraq Moratorium

Pancakes for peace and more

They'll be flipping pancakes for peace Friday, Iraq Moratorium day, at the Midwest Renewable Energy Expo in Wisconsin. It's one of 100 Moratorium actions planned across the country.

They'll hold a teach-in on torture on the train to San Jose, where a picket and vigil will target a Boeing subsidiary accused of providing logistics for those "extraordinary rendition" flights.

Church bells will ring in Massachusetts. Activists will leaflet commuters in San Francisco Bay area, Brooklyn, and Takoma Park MD. Street corner vigils are planned in dozens of communities across the country, large and small.

What are you and me gonna do about Iraq?*

They'll discuss it in Detroit.

They'll write letters in Cornwall, Ct.

They'll march in Duluth, rally in White Plains, and vigil in Cincinnati.

Amd they've been getting arrested in San Francisco.

Friday is Iraq Moratorium #7, and people across the country are marking it in dozens of different ways, from rallies, marches, protests, vigils to individual actions to call for an end to the war and occupation.

Our War Crime in Iraq is Going Swimmingly!

And our plan to nuke Iran is shaping up nicely too.

Can't do DC on 9/15? Telephone Protest for September 2007!

I have dropped a couple comments recently about setting up a telephone protest to coincide with the the massive 9/15 Iraq Moratorium Protest. These have received a few positive comments in return.

I think it would be a popular idea if communicated to enough people fast enough. Thus, my next step is to post the formal suggestion. Are YOU interested in protesting the Bush Administration but cannot get to the 9/15/07 Protest in DC?

Most people cannot go to this. Lots of people can and thats as it should be but America is huge and transportation and days off from work are scarce for a lot of people. Most people that really want to go likely cannot.

There is a way to join in in solidarity and it's pretty easy.

After the jump.

The Middle Way

The Middle Way is a revered Buddhist tradition and similar notions exist in other philosophical traditions as in the Western idea of moderation in all things.  This concept, judiciously applied, can be wisdom itself.  But don’t be too moderate in how much water you drink or how much shelter you avail yourself of...or how many train wrecks you avoid.

Another World is Possible - The USSF in Atlanta

Part I

The US Social Forum is still going on right here in my neck of the woods.  I spent all day there yesterday at the invitation of my new best friend, Dennis O’Neil of the Iraq Moratorium Committee, and all night last night partying with activists from S.E.I.U. (Service Employees International Union) and USLAW  (US Labor Against the War).

Iraq Moratorium: Speaking Truth To Power Across America

We are progressives. Unlike politicians, we keep our promises. On September 21, 2007, we can show America and the world that progressives across this country are going to stand up to that lying criminal in the White House. Those babbling doorknob polishers currently inhabiting the House and Senate will not stand up to Bush.

The Iraq Moratorium: Bring 'em Home

Nancy and Harry's pre-Iraq Moratorium Checklist:

Impeachment off the table? Check. Iraq withdrawal off the table? Check. Immunity handed out like candy? Check. Supporting the troops until they're all dead? Check. Kissing Joe Lieberman's ass every day of the week and twice on Sunday? CHECK.

Lessons of the Vietnam Moratorium for September 21

[Kforet kindly invited me to join and to crosspost this Iraq Moratorium piece that appeared last night at dKos. The dropping of OPOL's name helped get me aboard, as did the front page presence of folks whose dKos work I've been partial to, like clammyc and epppie. As far as this "fully functional social networking site" business,  it may take some time for me to get up to speed. If the blogosphere is entering its Neolithic, I'm still struggling to evolve the opposable thumb.]

I'm still beating the drums for the Iraq Moratorium project here, with the IM website rollout days away (he said, knocking wood) and the daily calender pages flipping, like in an old movie, toward the first Moratorium Day, September 21.

Rise Up and Be a Part of History

This country has been through a lot.  We have all seen our causes suffer, our worst fears realized, and our hopes repeatedly dashed.  Though not all Americans have suffered, many whom we progressives care about have.
