On the week leading up to Father's Day, two father/son teams just filed to run for office in the same state.
Jim and Mike Slattery both filed to run for office today. Jim for the US Senate in Kansas, and Mike for Kansas House District 24.
"I have always desired to be a part of the legislative process-largely thanks to my father's experiences," Mike says. "I have learned that the best candidates aren't necessarily the most experienced individuals, but those willing to serve and work tirelessly to better their community." (Mark's site)
"I'm running for office because the U.S. Senate is simply not getting the job done," Jim said. "On the issues of the economy, energy prices, and the war in Iraq, the incompetence of the political leadership in Washington is breathtaking. I cannot in good conscience continue to sit on the sidelines and watch career politicians lead our country in the wrong direction."
Father/son team Mark and Dustin Hardison also filed for House seats in the Kansas Legislature. Dustin filed for district 57 and Mark for district 81.
Mark filed for election Thursday, May 29 to represent the 81st House District. Mark seeks to replace Ted Powers who passed away May 13th.
“I want to ensure that my friends and neighbors have good representation in Topeka and that the values of the district are upheld in the Legislature,” Mark said.
Mark was encouraged to run by many area residents.
“The people of South Central Kansas deserve a representative who will take a commonsense approach and work hard for them in Topeka,” Mark said.
Dustin Hardison filed for election Monday, June 2nd to represent the 57th House District. Dustin seeks to replace retiring representative Vaughn Flora.
“In tough times we need to come together as a state, put aside our differences, and just get something done,” Dustin said. “I want to make sure that the people in the 57 district have a person who will work hard in their best interests,” Dustin said.
Dustin was born and raised in Mulvane and has lived in Topeka for more than four years.
“Growing up I was taught that if I wanted something- I had to go out and get it. If something needed to be fixed- I had to figure out how to get it done,” Dustin said. “These are the values I will take with me to the Kansas Legislature.
Using the knowledge I gained while working for SRS and the legislative relationships I have garnered in the last four years, I believe the Kansas House can continue to attend to the needs of thousands of needy Kansans.”
Happy Father's Day!
