Clinton leads with women, but Obama and Edwards are not going to get caught with their pants down. From the Washington Post:
Clinton Owes Lead in Poll To Support From Women (continued)

Tuesday, June 12, 2007; A01The consistent lead that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York has maintained over Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois and others in the race for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination is due largely to one factor: her support from women.
In the most recent Washington Post-ABC News poll, Clinton led Obama by a 2 to 1 margin among female voters. Her 15-point lead in the poll is entirely attributable to that margin. Clinton drew support from 51 percent of the women surveyed, compared with 24 percent who said they supported Obama and 11 percent who said they backed former senator John Edwards of North Carolina.
But the Obama and Edwards campaigns have already developed strategies to contest Clinton’s capture of this valuable voter demographic.
In recent weeks Obama has been touring the country to remind American women of how much he has spent on them. “Dating, restaurants, weekends at B&Bs—it added up,” Obama told a League of Women Voters’ symposium in Iowa. “I know that women have needs, and I have made the personal sacrifice necessary to meet those needs and move the dialogue forward.”
Obama noted that he had faced serious criticism from the left this year when he went back on his original stated position and supported extended funding for his wife’s credit cards.
The Edwards campaign is also worried about Clinton’s strong support from women voters and has moved quickly to respond. Edwards is now claiming that he, too, is a woman.
“I have the vagina, the urethra, the franklin, the utero, the clitoris maximus, the whole package down there,” said Edwards, speaking at a fundraiser in San Francisco. “It was a Swedish surgery deal, I got it after I saw the last poll numbers. I can’t show it to you, but it’s there, believe me. So I know what it means to have a man walk out me, and I know what a Pap smear is, too. Jesus. I learned about both on the same goddamn day. That should count for something with you--sisters.”

If you ask me,
and I confess that you didn't, Hillary is as close to being the nominee of the Democratic Party as anyone can be without a vote being cast yet. I attended a rally of hers the other day. She was absolutely great. People who think she is not electable haven't seen her on the campaign trail. We're looking at the 44th president.
Edwards's number
were never any great shakes, but they recently have become utterly anemic. I like Edwards's message, but in two national campaigns, he has never been able to make the sale to his most natural constituency, the members of the Democratic Party.
Now comes evidence that Obama is all about 2012 or 2016. I think it's Hillary.
I am really interested
in seeing how close the actual votes are to the polls. I think that Edwards may have a "hidden" constituency. I don't know how well polls capture the intentions of the least privileged Americans. He may have a silent army of supporters show up at the polls.

I don't know that
I don't know that Bill isn't just having a little fun here, but I do agree with you that she is a formidable candidate and clearly has a very competent campaign staff. I would love to see her square off against Giuliani in the general. I continue to be unimpressed with Obama. (You're no John Kennedy comes to mind). I like what John Edwards has to say but he can't seem to gain any traction outside of Iowa.

I tried to post the
above comment to this comment. Sorry about the confusion.
okay, where's my comment--
the long one I just typed out and submitted?

Did you use
invisible keyboard strokes?

that must be it
everything else always showed up.
Anyway, it was about Edwards "quiet desperation"--he need to hit home runs at these Dem debates and he didn't. All Hillary has to do is be serene, confident and statesman like.
It's just as well--to my way of thinking, we're staring into an abyss after the Bush admin and we need proven leadership, not a guy who needs to spend six months building a machine to just to handle Congress.

The great thing
about life AB is anything would be an improvement even peanut butter.

BTW
I loved the bit about Edwards claiming to be a woman. That's really funny! I don't know if you have heard but some people don't get your satire.

can you explain that last statement, a little more?
It's happened to me ever since I started writing--sometimes the truly ridiculous things I write are taken quite seriously. Maybe you should put "satire" in the tags?
Anyway--did someone write in to complain? When I was writing for a small town newspaper someone wrote in to complain every other week. I figure if I ever did anything "wrong" here, I'd be called out on it in the comment thread.

To help promote
the work that is posted at the site I sometimes send the links to other sites. I posted the link to the story you did about Condi at BuzzFlash. (It got a great response, BTW in terms of the number of reads), but someone made a comment at the Buzzfash link that we shouldn't just discount the President drinking and that it was very serious. Three or four people pretty much told the guy to chill out and it was pointed out that you do satire. I don't know how anyone can read your stuff and not know what you are doing. Frankly I think it would be insulting to the reader to tag it as satire. It would be like, DUH!

actually kerry, when that stuff happens
it makes me crack up. It's one of my guilty pleasures, thank you for giving me the anecdote.
The only time I'd really get upset about something I wrote is if someone convinced me that I intentionally set out to hurt the powerless, the real victims. And so far that hasn't happened yet. If I ever do it, though--I will crawl in apology.

That being the case
I wonder when someone will ask you to prove that Edwards has a vagina. Did you get pictures?

now you've gone too far, kerry
asking for beaver shots of Edwards... Please, some decorum, you are in charge.

Sometimes
I just get caught up in the heat of the moment. You know how politics just brings out the worst in some people?
