In his last address on the Senate floor John McCain agrees that there is "only a political solution to the Iraq problem" and then in the next sentence says that "without security there cannot be a political settlement." This is doublespeak. He wants to appear to agree with those who have come to realize the war is a failure but he does not want to leave his buddy, Bush, hanging out to dry.
If the people planting the IEDs are part of the political settlement and stop doing that, how much more security will be needed; and if they are not and don't, how can it be said that a political settlement has been achieved?
Senator McCain is showing that his campaign bus is really the "Doublespeak Express" and that he will say anything to protect his approval rating with the Bush faction of the GOP - his only hope for the White House.
