In the no-longer richest country on the planet . . .
[Title edited, per suggestion of Jerome a Paris--we are no-longer the richest nation on the planet]
The people speak.
Attention civilized world, this is healthcare in the no- longer richest country on the planet.
Attention civilized world, in the United States, we are still "debating" whether healthcare is a basic right.
Attention civilized world, be grateful you are not us.
REAL PEOPLE DENIED HEALTH CARE:
WALK A DAY IN MY SHOES:
AND CRITICALLY ILL, UNINSURED AMERICANS GO TO THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES FOR HEALTHCARE:
I'm tired of hearing and reading about how broken our health care system is. When will we finally see some action? I know Hillary tried to fix it when Bill was in office but since then I've heard nothing. What I don't understand is, how can our government officials by law have insurance while we the citizens are left to fend for ourselves? Why do these insurance companies have so much power over even the doctors that treat us?
You see, in this rich nation, healthcare is a luxury, a privilege, not a right.
It is hard to believe that one of the wealthiest countries in the world has a broken health care system. Even if this man were to be eligibablle for Medicaid, it would probably not fund expensive surgery. I for one am Senior at college. Due to the many costs that I have (i.e) college tuition, rent, I can not afford my health care at the moment. It in a sense has become a luxury that I must hold off getting until I can afford it. Since I have athsma and did have precriptions from when I had insurance, I was able to buy my medications which out of pocket cost me 500 and without I would be constantly ill. It is no wonder that Americans have sought to buy thier medications through foreign online companies! If the government wants illegal buying online to stop , it will have to confront the countries embarrassing health insurance situtaion.
A national disgrace.
I am a single mom living on a limited income. My employer went up on my health insurance this January, so I was unable to continue with it. I had to decided if paying for insurance or buying groceries was more important. I am not a poor person. I am considered middle class. I have already decided that I will probably die of something very treatable just because I do not have access to health care. I plan on spending my final days in the parking lot of a major hospital as a protest of our American system of Health Care. To be middle class, working American and dying at the door of a hospital that will not treat me would be poetic.
You want to talk about "failed nations". Look in the mirror, America.

The number of middle class
The number of middle class americans who have fallen into poverty during the last 30 years is astounding. Those who have not sold out or fallen down are working twice as hard to stay in the same place.
In the meantime, record profits have been made by big pharm, big farm, big health, big oil, and the military-industrial sectors of the economy. Telecom and tech have also gone through the roof.
It is during these boom times that our social infrastructure disappeared. It's really no mystery where the money, and our social infrastructure went.
Our health has been traded away for the profits of the health industry, plain and simple. Misery for bribe money is the political deal.
As you said, it is an open disgrace.
So too have the all the corporate interests escaped the responsible taxes necessary to maintain even basic education medicine, and retirement systems.
All the corporate special interests have bribed and manipulated our pliable politicians, who have repaid them by privitizing or denying our citizens basic health, education, and welfare services.
Today, not one of the viable candidates has a single payer health plan. All of their plans make the citizen suffer to generate private profits.
All of their policies put profits before people. That's to be expected in a political system funded by corporate and special interest bribery. You get what you pay for, and our political bribers paid to screw us out of our money, and our democracy.
Until the contributions of the voters are the main source of campaign funds, all of our nation's agricultural, energy, health, and industrial profits are going be taken without paying the social costs of making their profits.
Until we restore our democracy our health, education, and every piece of our social infrastructure (not to mention our natural infrastructure) will continue to subsidize the irresponsible profits of the corporate special interest bribers.
I am so down for restoring our democracy!
