But only if it gets told, gets told loudly, clearly, simplistically and repetitively. It is still unfolding, even though it has been happening for years. It is pervasive, deep, goes against the very first and most basic premise of democracy and is a concerted effort by many individuals and organizations throughout the republican party, its affiliated "associations" as well as many levels of government whose primary purpose is to ensure that this most basic premise of democracy is not subverted.
The story, of course, is election fraud. Gaming the electoral system from the inside. To unfairly favor republicans. Favors and promotions for those who go along. Demotions, firings and blacklisting of those who don't. Nonexistent charges of voter fraud and threats or coercion for these charges to be investigated. Illegal redistricting. Petty lawsuits against the Voting Rights Act. Voter ID laws that border on illegal, if not overtly illegal. Conflict of interest between party "reelection officials" and Secretary(ies) of State. Get accustomed to hearing about it, prepare yourself to say it. And not just things that can be dismissed such as exit poll discrepancies or hackable voting machines. The real deal. The whole enchilada.
It doesn't get any lower than this. Using any means necessary to get and remain in power.
I first mentioned it a couple of weeks ago, and then again in much more detail last week. And even since last week, there has been a detailed piece from ePluribus Media on the DOJ's Voting Rights Section's Special Litigation Counsel Robert Popper and his major conflicts of interest with respect to voting rights, the Help America Vote Act and the Voting Rights Act.
There has been an article by McClatchy about Hans Von Spakovsky and his connection to voter ID laws, his attempts to influence the federal Election Assistance Commission's research into the dimensions of voter fraud nationally and the impact of restrictive voter ID laws - research that could undermine a vote-suppression agenda, as well as other actions and campaigns to suppress voter rights of minorities. Oh, by the way, Hans Von Spakovsky was a civil rights lawyer in the Justice Department and a recess appointment to the Federal Elections Commission.
And that is in just three days. Who knows what the rest of this week will bring in terms of surprises.
There is still talk about the US Attorney purge being "political". And even though that is, on the most basic level, true - it goes way way beyond that. To describe it as mere politics is to justify it as sleazy but legal. However, to describe it as it is blatant and concerted actions to promote those who helped and punish those who hindered efforts to suppress minority votes or influence the election in favor of republicans is more powerful, more truthful - and more scary.
The evidence is mounting at a furious pace. We have someone (Von Spakovsky) who is linked to voter suppression efforts within the republican party not only put in a position as a civil rights lawyer at the Justice Department, but on the goddamn Federal Elections Commission.
You have Robert Popper - an attorney with a notorious and detailed history of bringing (many times baseless) lawsuits in order to target minority voters and districts as the Voting Rights Section's Special Litigation Counsel. You have little to no cases or investigations into voter suppression since 2001, yet numerous suits and investigations into voter rolls that weren't properly purged.
You have Tim Griffin, a man who was responsible at the Republican National Committee for "caging" activities that suppressed minority voters who were stationed in Iraq, which he is currently under investigation for, promoted (at Karl Rove's request and hidden from Congressional investigations) to US Attorney.
You have not one, not two, not three but at least four US attorneys OTHER THAN GRIFFIN whose jobs depended on whether they brought charges of voter fraud or charges in general against Democrats close to Election Day 2006.
You have the White House itself - the Big Cheese, home of both "the Decider" AND "Commander Guy" - including Karl Rove's office AND Alberto Gonzales' office discussing the desire to pursue voter fraud cases against Democrats in New Mexico, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania a mere few weeks before the 2006 elections.
It goes back even further than this. Phone jamming in NH tied to Abramoff, the NH Republican Party and Tom DeLay. Redistricting in TX in between census periods and violations relating to the redistricting. Voting machines that were used even after they were decertified as unsafe. Willful acts to destroy and disqualify Democratic voter registration cards and applications - by the Secretary of State of the state that "swung" the 2004 election, by voter registration groups associated with the republican party. Thousands - tens of thousands purged from voter rolls in Georgia, Florida and other states.
None of this being investigated.
Who knows how many votes were cast but not counted. I have heard numbers that were in the millions, but I can't vouch for the accuracy of these numbers. Who knows how many people did not get the chance to vote because of being purged, suppressed or illegally challenged by republican party operatives? Again, none of this investigated.
We do know one thing. A very strong pattern has emerged and continues to emerge. A pattern that touches state republican party officials, national republican party officials, the Justice Department, the White House, Congress, and the very groups whose purpose is the HELP voting rights and ensure that all votes are counted - the Voting Rights Section, the Civil Rights Section, the Federal Elections Commission.
All of this done by design. By the republican party. At all levels.
It is a simple story to tell, as ugly and complicated as it is to untangle. The republican party has used its power to undermine and suppress the votes of those most likely to vote Democratic in order to keep power. It should spell doom for the republican party for decades to come.
Is anyone brave enough to call a duck a duck, take this story and give it the exposure it deserves?

The Rah Rah Society
It is not well known but there is a secret society at work in America today, No not the Masons the Trilateralist’s or the Rand Corporation. This secret confederation it is so secret in fact that some of the members don’t even know they’re members themselves. The have no conscious memories of their initiation or of their oath. The neophytes chant the mantras and learn and repeat the gospels hoping to rise to a level of prominence in The Ancient Mystic Order of The Rah Rah Society.
The lower order of plebeian knows very little about the hierarchy, they’re duties are primarily symbolic as the elders preach the plebs nod in unison, “It is so, it is written it would be erroneous to question,†It is easy for us the uninitiated to look down our noses and criticize the automatons for never questioning who was leading them and never asking, “Where is it they are being led to?†Because it is a vital component of the human pathology to want to fit in and to want to follow along and to give away all right’s of all critical thought as the initiation dues and as a sign of blind loyalty.
The chosen, as the sub lieutenants consider themselves for they have been chosen to rise from among the ranks of the plebs. They have been given a taste of the inner sanctum they know the secret handshake and they have their decoder ring. Their duty is to mix and infiltrate among the uninitiated and to serepticously preach the gospels, “It is so, it is written it would be erroneous to question.†They are diligent and their role in the organization should not be understated. For they are the true believers they believe the gospels and hosanna at all its tenants.
They number in the millions and they are dutiful and loyal, well aware that of their numbers only one or two will rise to the next level. As they strain to see inside the golden sanctuary, as they lay prostrate on the floor some catch a glimpse as the golden doors open to see the holy holy upon it’s high alter. They believe if only they preach the gospel hard enough that they too will be admitted to the sanctuary but it is never to be. The devout can only see the front of the golden doors and to catch glimpses inside the sanctuary that they will never be admitted in to. For inside the chamber only the anointed can see the sacred message, visible only when the doors are closed from the inside and when chamber is inviolable.
The message engraved into the golden doors is the most sacred secret of the organization and made available only to the highest rank. The translation from the original Greek reads, “To Believe is to be a Fool.†Indeed it is essential to protect this holy secret and the cult shouts down and haunts any who digress but in most cases it is the succor of the ecumenical class that quiets the dissenters. Don’t look so shocked! History is full of religious orders whose sole purpose was the benefit of the leadership. The idea is in fact so old that the name pyramid scheme is probably the most appropriate name ever given out in human creation. As old or older than the pyramids themselves it is alive and well with us today in the twenty first century.
Like most orders it was at its inception created for the good of all and filled with noble ideas and inspirations. At it’s cathedral was the intention to build the economy by bringing buyers and sellers together to facilitate trade. The order was a victim of it’s own success there were good days and bad days but over all the order thrived despite the internal corruption. But today the Rah Rah Society acts like a mafia organization indifferent to the goals of the market they seek only their cut. They make their percentage by the numbers of the transactions not the quality of the transactions. Any serious attempt to moderate or regulate is to cut their own take so instead they watch from the balcony and chant the mantras of the free market.
To maintain their order the faithful must preacher ever harder, “It is so, it is written It is so, it is written as their volume increases and their inflection rises. They strain to preach their gospel despite the natural calamites that befalls them. The Enron chapter has folded; the high priest Abramoff defrocked the holy father Greenspan has stepped down. But the Rah Rah Society will not be disswayed, “These budget deficits are manageable!â€

For the defenders of the faith know that for the church to survive they must bring in new believers and new funding or the church will collapse burdened by the weight of it’s own prophecies. To prevent the collapse the Rah Rah Society must preach the new gospel. That bad news is really good news only wrapped in different paper for only faith alone can save the church now. “New home sales down 18% largest drop in twenty years†the market is up 42 points as sales were better than first feared. You see the Titanic was almost a thousand feet long but good news! The hole in the hull wasn’t even four hundred; “Levels of violence down in Iraq as surge begins to take hold.†Market breaks 13,000 barrier unmentioned by the Rah Rah Society was that the new number of attacks didn’t include attacks by car bombs or IED’s. Suppose we only count attacks made by insurgents with water pistols Iraq would then rank among the most peaceful countries in the world! “It is so, It is written.â€
The Rah Rah society is at a cross roads as they kneel in prayer at the alter of the sacred dollar pretending to be devoted but at the same time they have converted their own sacred holdings to new gods, the Euro and the Yen and they have found the new promised land in China were they can build new temples and practice the faith unperturbed by the heretics of regulation. For all appearances the church appears unable to still or navigate the troubled waters, the antichrist is at the wheel and is headed for the rocks. But the church hierarchy is unperturbed they have made their arrangements they will be on the last rocket out of Krypton and expect a soft landing in the new country they have read the sacred text and taken it to heart!
