There is some Trollish behavior in many candidate Diaries by a small number of people of various persuasions. But before you write "Obama's thugs ..." it behooves you to determine whether these folks are paid or volunteers sent by the Obama campaign. For all you know, some of them are paid Clinton or Gravel or McBush operatives stirring up shit. Just because they say they support Obama doesn't mean Obama (or his strategists) approve of their behavior, knows of their behavior, or, given the exigencies of the primary campaign, gives a hoot that they're handing out zeroes or fours on a blog.
As I've been saying for weeks: If you want more civil behavior here, then rein in the "thugs" who support the same candidate you do, and urge backers of the other candidate to rein in their "thugs."

I can't quite agree with MeteorBlades thoughtful comment, because I don't think any candidate, including Obama, is so out of touch or contemptuous of DK that they don't know what their supporters are doing here. So for me, they are "Obama's thugs" until he rejects or denounces them. Even mild reproof would probably be enough.

Valhalla's comment is similar to MeteorBlades', but with an interesting reference to Reagan:

I think that any especially inspirational figure (whether for good or for ill) will always attract a subsection of irrational overly zealous supporters. Obama's the most charismatic politician since Ronald Reagan, and if there had been a conservative Daily Kos around in 1980, he would have his share of cultists shutting trying to control the discussion. But, I don't think it's far to blame Obama for his supporters. If he could control them, I am sure he would ask them to get off of Daily Kos and do some phonebanking and canvassing instead! It's tough but please and try separate Obama from the small minority of his supporters who go overboard.

I think it isn't necessarily a very good thing that Democrats are experiencing the same sort of irrational exuberance as Reagan's fanatics. It seems to me that most of the country subscribes to a more progressive platform than either of the remaining Democratic candidates is proposing, and with the truth of the situation on our side, we could probably dispense with Obama's unthinking charismatics.

Searching For Pericles asks a good question about Hillary's main thug:

I'd like to ask why Mark Penn still has a job. Shaheen was fired for his "cocaine" comments, but Penn did the same thing, on national TV on Hardball, and he still has a job, despite the fact HRC likes to trumpet how she doesn't approve such tactics.

If she doesn't approve of it, how come nothing has happened to Penn for his reprehensible behavior?

I totally agree that Mark Penn epitomizes everything that's wrong with HRC's campaign and the DLC branch of the Democratic Party in general. That blood-sucker billed Hillary $3.8 million during January 2008, while the wheels were coming off her campaign!

Boston Boomer adds a sad end-note in a reply to MeteorBlades:

For the record, I don't support either candidate, but I've gotten to the point that I don't want to come here much anymore. I still check in occasionally, because dkos is a years-long habit for me, but I'm weaning myself off this place. It makes me sad, because I've enjoyed the interactions I've had here with many other Kossacks who are now gone or have gone silent and I've learned so much here in the past. But I'm now resigned to the fact that this is now mostly an Obama cheerleading site.

I'd like to apologize for myself and others. Hillary did suffer sexism which was low conduct. Remember all ruckus when she showed a little bit of cleavage. You'd have thought nobody knew that women had breasts. I kept thinking of history when black men got to vote before women did. Maybe history does repeat itself.

When you're ready let's work together to overthrow the Republican nightmare. Our country is at stake and it's a daunting task on many levels to make America great again. It's going to take all of us and it's time to make civic pride real for the younger generation.

Haven't you people ever watched pro wrestling?

Presidential elections are just like pro wrestling.

The wrestlers appear to be good guys or bad guys and to hurt each other. But it is all entertainment to get your money. Afterwards they get together and socialize. They're colleagues in the same business.

Obama and Hillary are friends. They both support the military-industrial complex and big multinational corporations' agenda, just as McCain does. They all belong to the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission, and the Bilderbergers, where policy is really made. The political operatives, shills, and suckers who do all that trash-talking, are what keeps the con game going.

When you vote in a rigged election where you cannot even know for sure if your vote is counted, no less counted for the candidate you cast it for, you are saying that you don't really care who "wins."

Boycott the War!

Daily Kos has a kind of immature frat house atmosphere, fostered by a bunch of insecure malcontents. Many, sadly, believe that every opinion needs to be rudely ripped apart and that common courtesy is only for suckers.

These days I do not even bother to pay attention to the comments left behind on each diary, because they are almost always mean-spirited and full of personal attacks rooted more in a kind of delusional paranoia. At times, I tried to be the peacemaker, but it's impossible. That's a role Kos himself needs to take, but won't do so because his own ego and meglomanical impulses would never once have him perform anything the least bit compassionate or altruistic.

Dear Mr. Freeze,

Since you seem to want to make this personal I will try to respond to you again in a reply. It's not personal. My computer background is a picture of the Scales of Justice with the word "DISCONTINUED" across it. That is what happened with the Bush administration, no justice.

It's like this, dear sir, we Democrats are a Union and that is what drew me to this blog. I was on another blog not unlike the KOS and just got so disgusted. I'm looking for unity to to get these freaking Repugs out of office. My motive is pure and simple. Senator Clinton would have done fine until she kept shooting herself in the foot. I can readily accept her husbands gaffes because he apparently has bypass brain blank syndrome. My Mom had the same thing so I can relate. So that left Senate Obama. It's a mere process of elimination, sir. I have no ulterior motives. I just want the Repugs out!

Then get off the darn Demo wagon and for vote for the white guy, Mr. Freeze.

BTW, McCain isn't the only only showing their pale face at the Dermatology clinic, I do as well. So it's not a race issue, Jeepers.

Some people take getting banned from Daily Kos a little hard.

Mr. Freeze is clearly taking it harder than others.

ECT may be necessary for him to finally let this go and move on.

Maybe just a laxative - who knows?

I have never really thought of the pro-Obama legions "over there" to be particularly "thuggish" but they are certainly easy to piss off. I seem to step on a toe every now and then because I don't see the same angelic aura around Obama they do. I don't think he will be any worse than Bill Clinton, hopefully even better.

But he doesn't really deserve the unfettered bashing Mr Freeze appears paid to do, and yes, paid trolling does happen.
