I've written a couple of diaries that Hillary Clinton's supporters interpreted as more unsympathetic to their candidate than they really were, and some of their comments were harsh, but Ms. Clinton's supporters never tried to shut down discussion by jamming threads with empty comments and even empty titles. DemocraticLuntz is the worst, posting " " only 36 seconds after one of my diaries was posted, no title, no comment, don't bother to read the diary, and not just for me, but also on a very halting diary by yangwenli, where JeffLieber, kismet, RumsfeldResign, Irishkorean, Hannibal, MKS, and MichaelPH also posted empty title lines or typographical doodads over empty comments.
Hannibal likes this trick so much that on the list of his comments, 14 in a row were nothing but meaningless typographical doodads, many of them clogging a reasonably substantial pro-Hillary diary by ManOverBoard.
MadAsHellMaddie and ElitistJohn also joined members of the usual crew like MichaelPh and Democratic Luntz in posting meaningless doodads on the same diary, which also illustrates another favorite tactic of Obama's thugs: abusive troll ratings. Troll ratings of a comment by the diarist, titled "I was in Iowa..." by nevadadem, mcfly, Elvis meets Nixon, Potus2020, gchaucer2, rf7777 were uprated by Dump Terry McAuliffe, PaintyKat, swissffun, bonesy, bobswern, ZhenRen. Six troll ratings, six upratings, followed by bitter name-calling... Is this an example of Obama's famous ability to heal divisions?
Or maybe by "healing divisions" Obama means the same thing as proponents of the Surge in Iraq, which Obama votes to fund every chance he gets. The Surge "healed divisions" by allowing each side to drive the other out of mixed neighborhoods, and Presto! Everybody is just alike, on one side of the wall or the other.
Obama's thugs obviously have the same sort of "cleansing" in mind, and it's working. As an Iowa caucus chairman, ZhenRen, commented (on ManOverboard's diary) about deciding not to write a diary criticizing Obama's supporters:
When I got around to thinking about a diary, I'd noticed someone else had written one about a similar incident in Iowa, and he was getting viciously attacked, called a racist, etc. He didn't do a very good job at presenting his facts, and opened himself to some hostility that possibly could have been avoided to a degree.
I haven't written many diaries, and am somewhat new to DKos (been lurking awhile longer than my ID would indicate). I decided to not put myself through the attacks that were sure to come. I was exhausted after working my butt off working for the Edwards campaign, and it was the first chance for a rest after months of work. I let it go.
One last look at ManOverboard's diary shows gchaucer2 posting an empty comment with nothing but the title "Are you frigging drunk?" This jewel received 10 upratings from Obama's supporters. What is it about "Are you frigging drunk? that encouraged mayan, Elise, Elvis meets Nixon, Rex Manning, dconrad, kubrick2008, rf7777, Libertaria, djolfs, and Into The Stars to recommend it? There's nothing in it except brute hostility!
Anyone who can stand to read through the comments of the thugs already mentioned can find any number of examples of the same concerted effort to stifle discussion on Daily Kos.
Just one more incident from one of my own diaries, which didn't mention any candidate...
A couple of days ago I came across a fantastic YouTube video of Billie Holiday and her best friend Lester Young playing sublime music with some of the greatest stars in the history of jazz. What the heck! Let's have a little beauty on DK, and leave the battle for truth and justice for another day! So I posted a little diary that was nothing but the beautiful video, with a minimal intro. One of the readers couldn't get the sound to work on DK, so I gave him a direct link, and Wham! Down comes a troll rating! For a link to a Billie Holiday video on YouTube!
This puzzled the original poster, Ohio. Thanks for the link, he or she said, and what's up with the troll rating? Is it someone you know?
It was indeed someone I knew... the irrepressible "kharma," who has troll-and hit-tagged every diary I ever wrote that was critical of Obama, sometimes dozens of times on the same diary, even after other TU's had removed the tags. It isn't enough for Obama's supporters to write "turd" as a tag on my diaries... they have to stalk me all over DK too!
I have written diaries critical of both Hillary and Obama, and been attacked by friends of both, but I have to say that none of Hillary's friends ever flooded a thread with empty comments, or followed me all over Daily Kos troll-rating links to Billie Holiday!
In my opinion, based on my experience on Daily Kos, after posting 70 diaries mostly attacking Bush/Cheney, or supporting Kucinich, Dodd, and Edwards, Obama has brought more bitter divisiveness to Daily Kos than any other candidate, and if that's the sort of "healing" we can expect from Obama as a candidate or President, it's very bad news.
So it's time for Obama either to rein in his thugs, or acknowledge that he approves of their tactics.
I sent his media office a couple of emails about this problem, with links to examples, but they didn't bother to reply.

Some comments on this diary
Some comments on this diary from Daily Kos are worth preserving.
MeteorBlades' commented:
I can't quite agree with MeteorBlades thoughtful comment, because I don't think any candidate, including Obama, is so out of touch or contemptuous of DK that they don't know what their supporters are doing here. So for me, they are "Obama's thugs" until he rejects or denounces them. Even mild reproof would probably be enough.
Valhalla's comment is similar to MeteorBlades', but with an interesting reference to Reagan:
I think it isn't necessarily a very good thing that Democrats are experiencing the same sort of irrational exuberance as Reagan's fanatics. It seems to me that most of the country subscribes to a more progressive platform than either of the remaining Democratic candidates is proposing, and with the truth of the situation on our side, we could probably dispense with Obama's unthinking charismatics.
Searching For Pericles asks a good question about Hillary's main thug:
I totally agree that Mark Penn epitomizes everything that's wrong with HRC's campaign and the DLC branch of the Democratic Party in general. That blood-sucker billed Hillary $3.8 million during January 2008, while the wheels were coming off her campaign!
Boston Boomer adds a sad end-note in a reply to MeteorBlades:

I'd like to apologize for
I'd like to apologize for myself and others. Hillary did suffer sexism which was low conduct. Remember all ruckus when she showed a little bit of cleavage. You'd have thought nobody knew that women had breasts. I kept thinking of history when black men got to vote before women did. Maybe history does repeat itself.
When you're ready let's work together to overthrow the Republican nightmare. Our country is at stake and it's a daunting task on many levels to make America great again. It's going to take all of us and it's time to make civic pride real for the younger generation.
Peace, not war.
I don't know who you are,
I don't know who you are, "Catzoned," so don't take this personally...
It's obviously in the self-interest of Mr. Obama and his friends to mollify people who supported Hillary Clinton, but a few conciliatory words with the obvious purpose of attracting votes may not be sufficient.
Mr. Obama and his brutal campaign machine vilified Hillary Clinton as a racist again and again and again during the campaign... for example, when she mentioned that Lyndon Johnson deserved some credit for passing the Voting and Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1965.
Assigning LBJ a little credit for that monumental legislation is actually a fantastic understatement of the reality of the situation. Johnson was one of the greatest Senate Majority Leaders in the history of the Senate, before he became Vice-President, and without his enormous skill and the commitment behind it, Jim Crow could have easily survived for another generation in the South.
But Obama and his surrogates not only completely disrespected one of the best friends black people in the United States ever had... They used Hillary Clinton's acknowledgement of LBJ's role to attack her as a racist.
Empty words won't wash away the Obama campaign's miserable race-baiting, any more than a lukewarm apology can be sufficient compensation for any other form of brutal assault.
If Mr. Obama really wants to unify the party, it's time for him to make a substantial concession to Hillary Clinton and the people who supported her, and I can't imagine what form such a concession could assume except for offering her the Vice-Presidency.

Haven't you people ever
Haven't you people ever watched pro wrestling?
Presidential elections are just like pro wrestling.
The wrestlers appear to be good guys or bad guys and to hurt each other. But it is all entertainment to get your money. Afterwards they get together and socialize. They're colleagues in the same business.
Obama and Hillary are friends. They both support the military-industrial complex and big multinational corporations' agenda, just as McCain does. They all belong to the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission, and the Bilderbergers, where policy is really made. The political operatives, shills, and suckers who do all that trash-talking, are what keeps the con game going.
When you vote in a rigged election where you cannot even know for sure if your vote is counted, no less counted for the candidate you cast it for, you are saying that you don't really care who "wins."
Boycott the War!
Daily Kos has a kind of
Daily Kos has a kind of immature frat house atmosphere, fostered by a bunch of insecure malcontents. Many, sadly, believe that every opinion needs to be rudely ripped apart and that common courtesy is only for suckers.
These days I do not even bother to pay attention to the comments left behind on each diary, because they are almost always mean-spirited and full of personal attacks rooted more in a kind of delusional paranoia. At times, I tried to be the peacemaker, but it's impossible. That's a role Kos himself needs to take, but won't do so because his own ego and meglomanical impulses would never once have him perform anything the least bit compassionate or altruistic.

Dear Mr. Freeze, Since you
Dear Mr. Freeze,
Since you seem to want to make this personal I will try to respond to you again in a reply. It's not personal. My computer background is a picture of the Scales of Justice with the word "DISCONTINUED" across it. That is what happened with the Bush administration, no justice.
It's like this, dear sir, we Democrats are a Union and that is what drew me to this blog. I was on another blog not unlike the KOS and just got so disgusted. I'm looking for unity to to get these freaking Repugs out of office. My motive is pure and simple. Senator Clinton would have done fine until she kept shooting herself in the foot. I can readily accept her husbands gaffes because he apparently has bypass brain blank syndrome. My Mom had the same thing so I can relate. So that left Senate Obama. It's a mere process of elimination, sir. I have no ulterior motives. I just want the Repugs out!
Catzoned: I don't exactly
Catzoned: I don't exactly understand your disclaimer about "ulterior motives," and I also want to see the Republicans out of office, but...
Obama ran a nasty, race-baiting campaign against Hillary Clinton, and if he's relying on the bogey-man McCain to stampede the rest of the Democratic Party into voting for him, it may not work.
All we really know about Obama is his semi-fictional autobiography, and an occasional slip from his hate-America entourage. Judging from the association of his church and former pastor, mentor and friend Jeremiah Wright with James Cone, Louis Farrakan, and Malcolm X, it seems reasonable to assume that he is sympathetic to a very crude form of black power, and his campaign's unbelievably hostile and defamatory attacks on anyone who hasn't lined up behind their Messiah give additional credence to Obama's connection with the most hateful elements of black America.
Obama attacked Hillary about NAFTA, and voted for NAFTA-Peru himself. He attacked Hillary about voting for the War Powers Act, and voted to fund the war himself. His campaign did everything possible to vilify Bill Clinton as a racist for... mentioning that Jesse Jackson had previously won the SC primary!
If you think you can scare people like me into voting for the racing-baiting hypocrite Barack Obama by threatening us with the bogey-man McCain, you may be wrong.

"If you think you can scare people like me into voting for the racing-baiting hypocrite Barack Obama by threatening us with the bogey-man McCain, you may be wrong".
Then get off the darn Demo wagon and for vote for the white guy, Mr. Freeze.
"When people run in circles....It's a mad, mad world".
(Tears for Fears).
"Vote for the white
"Vote for the white guy..."
You got that right! McCain isn't just white, he's as white as snow! Maybe you haven't heard that he has to stay out of the sun to avoid a recurrence of melanoma.
Or maybe your obsession with race and color makes you insensitive to every other human qualitiy.
BTW McCain isn't one of my top ten choices on the ballot, after Nader, whoever the Greens run, the Natural Herb Party, and a host of others, and it's also possible that the vindictive and hypocritical Mr. Obama won't get the Democratic nomination. He just happens to lead right now in terms of non-binding expressions of preference by super-delegates.
But try to remember that not everybody shares your obsession with race and color, and some of us would still have doubts about the hypocritical Messiah Barack Obama even if he were green with purple polka dots, and he were running against a guy who could get a suntan with dying of skin-cancer.
There's more to Barack Obama than his color, but maybe you can't see beyond it.

Catzoned, when you throw in
Catzoned, when you throw in little comments like that one("vote for the white guy"), I don't see any difference between you and Bill O'Reilly. Quick, personal, and based solely upon assumption rather than fact. It's the kind of thing that hurts Obama supporters in this particular medium.

Okay. Thank you. And for the record, I strongly support Obama too, and it's good to know other people try to keep a certain level of civility when discussing the issues as well. Good to know it's not just me, man.

Some people take getting
Some people take getting banned from Daily Kos a little hard.
Mr. Freeze is clearly taking it harder than others.
ECT may be necessary for him to finally let this go and move on.
Maybe just a laxative - who knows?
I have never really thought of the pro-Obama legions "over there" to be particularly "thuggish" but they are certainly easy to piss off. I seem to step on a toe every now and then because I don't see the same angelic aura around Obama they do. I don't think he will be any worse than Bill Clinton, hopefully even better.
But he doesn't really deserve the unfettered bashing Mr Freeze appears paid to do, and yes, paid trolling does happen.

Isn't it strange that every
Isn't it strange that every time I characterize Obama's friends in a way that looks a little over-the-top, one of them comes along and exhibits exactly the thuggish style that I described in my diary?
This particular diary had nothing to do with getting banned on Daily Kos, along with dozens of other posters critical of Obama, after I had already published almost a hundred diaries on the site, and if the pseudonym "xxdr_zombiexx" had done a little research he or she might have noticed that I posted 20 more diaries on Daily Kos after exactly the same diary appeared there.
If "xxdr_zombiexx" had bothered to read the diary as it appeared on Daily Kos, he or she would have noticed comments by several of the front-page administrators of the site, agreeing with my condemnation of the Obamabots habit of posting long strings of "empty comments" consisting of nothing but typographical doodads, in order to clog the threads and suppress discussion by anyone who criticized Mr. Obama.
I also provided links to numerous examples of exactly what I was condemning, in case anyone doubted my description of it.
About being paid for my blogs by one candidate or another... I wish!
But when I published the snarky blog "xxdr_zombiexx" links under "paid to do," on April 1, 2008, I never imagined that so many Obamabots would be stupid enough to miss the joke.
(Apologies for the nonsense with the fonts. It made replying to yet another ugly comment from Obama's friends a little less tedious.)
__________________________http://jacobfreeze.com
It's also worth noticing
It's also worth noticing that Obamabots constantly celebrate their success at driving critics of Mr. Obama off the liberal blogs, and it's just another demonstration that their intention isn't so much to persuade undecideds as to silence all opposition.
Mr. Obama's recent exclusion of all American reporters from his publicity junket to Iraq and Afghanistan is part of the same pattern, and the Obama campaign tried to cover it up by claiming that there was a Senate rule against reporters travelling with Congressional delegations, but neither the campaign nor the Obamabots who parroted the party line ever provided a link to any such rule, and it doesn't exist.

I can't believe you aren't snark.
You're like a joke I can't quite get.
I am not "one of them", an "Obama thug", or an Obamabot, either - if you'd bother to have read my comment....
You're a free-range internet troll and tedious self-centered bore.
I just made the allusion to paid trollery to piss you off. You're a nuisance.
