What is the soul? Is it an amorphous entity that we throw about and believe sets us apart from the creatures that we dominate? Does that include ourselves as we look down on those that have not achieved what we in this society have been brainwashed into believing equals success. The western predilection for conquering anyone that gets in our way is far more powerful than any other disposition or supposition known to humankind just ask Soulless John McCain.
Being the conquering hero is the rule of law of humankind. To be generous is abnormal and beyond the logical scope of things. Look at Marxism: how was a philosophy based on egalitarianism perverted in such a way as to produce societies that exploited the weaknesses of the masses for the benefits of the few? This system was and is no different than capitalism except that we have created our facet of freedom through the purchasing power of the few over the masses.
The best example is health care. We pretend to have the best health care system in the world, but it is only for the few. As a teacher, I am one of the few. It saved my life, and without it I should or would be dead or severely disabled. As a young man, I took a flyer on health care and played the odds. It worked out all right until I blew out a knee and needed a root canal, which forced me find money to fix the tooth, but made me live with an injury that only got worse with time.
What does all this bantering have to do with a soul? John McCain pretends to have a soul. He pretends to care about the American people. Yet, whenever he opens his mouth, lies fly forth. He says that he will balance the budget in 4 years and a roar comes from the crowd. In this fantasy world, he leaves Medicare and Social Security out of the equation, thus, he does not calculate their impact on the budget. What will happen to people in these programs when they need medical care to live and there is no money? He has no answer. I guess he’ll leave that mess to the next president as Bush has so aptly done with Iraq.
How is he going to pay for the war in Iraq? He is going to give a flyer to corporations and the wealthiest Americans. It is pay back time for the donations that these people have given to him. He is beholden to their largess. One could infer from this statement that the regular Jills and Joes of American will be stuck with the bill. With gas and food prices shooting through the roof, who will notice the added tax burden. Remember, he loves and cares about us: the American people.
When he makes these outrageous statements no one in the corporate media stands up and says, "Hold up there big fella". They act like John McCain is like their Uncle Jim and they smile and nod their head and pretend that he did not just make a sexist or racist joke because he is Uncle Jim and that is the way he acts. More than that, McCain acts like the world is out to get him and anyone who questions him or his motives or his voting record needs to be eliminated, metaphorically speaking of course.
John McCain is the second coming of George Bush. He is unable to question and reevaluate his own judgment or positions, and he attacks anyone who does. Look at his response to Wesley Clark’s statements. He hates it when facts get in the way of his fiction. Or, look at the way he attacked a veteran that brought up his voting record on veterans’ bills. But the most remarkable and soulless enterprise to date is the fact that he allowed President Bush to praise him for his work on the G.I. Bill that Senator Webb has been fighting for since his swearing in and that John McCain fought against and refused to be present for the vote.
Here is a man who will do and say whatever is necessary to win an election. Here is a man who will exploit his own traumatic and heroic combat experience to win an election. Here is a man that will attack anyone who questions his moral authority to rule this country. Here is a man that went to bat for Charles Keating after he cheated thousands of Americans out of their life savings. Once in power, see who he exploits to balance the budget. Soulless John McCain here’s to you.
